In a four round fight, Roy not only survives, if he pot shots, he can win five times out of ten.

Anything longer than four rounds, Roy can fight to survive, and could very well make it to the end of the fight.

As to the thread question, if Roy is trying to win in a 12 round fight, he gets KO'd somewhere along the way, probably in the first half.

Who knew that Thunny had a song dedicated to him - by a previously vanquished opponent, no less? :D

If Destiny’s Child’s song “Say My Name” had been written back then, it would’ve been a perfect song for Ernie Terrell and the Heavyweights to cover, in post fight tribute to Ali.

A few other boxers who I recall had bands back in day were: -

Gene Tunney and the Winers, Barney Ross and the Supremes, Lionel Rose and the Petals, Joe Bugner and the Pacifists, Jimmy Young and the Pillow Punchers (no, I didn’t say “biters”), Mike (Tyson) and the Masticators, Oliver McCall and the Cry Babies and, finally…

…Riddick Bowe and the <????>, sorry, no one could ever understand what Riddick was saying when he introduced his backing band…

PS - Lennox Lewis also warbled a few tunes but Lennox always maintained he was far too good to need any backing band to support him.

    Lennox’s biggest hit? - “Somebody’s Lion”

Y’all must’ve forget that Ruiz had Jones notably teetering in the first round from some otherwise innocuous looking punches.

    Oops.

That was during a brief moment of the fight when Ruiz actually threw some punches with semi bad intentions.

John lost his head a bit there. Fight with head John, not your heart, his corner told him.

Thereafter, due to a combination of Ruiz inexplicably dropping tools and Nady’s heavy handed referring influence (“Don’t you daresn’t get too close to Roy”) the fight played out as it did.

An extremely low punch count all up as I recall.

The ONE win vs Ruiz, who was a boxing technician extraordinaire tbh, has allowed Jones to wedge his foot in the door for the ongoing entertainment of Roy beating other HWs.

    What can I say?

The Quiet Man has a lot to answer for.

John Wayne would’ve even done better than Ruiz did. :D

I don’t think there is a possible route in my head for RJJ but IDKAB.

Mike Tyson was way too much of a heavyweight for Spinks.

Same with Roy and Liston. It won't make 2 rounds.

I'm not a Liston fan but by god, I see few ways for Roy to win this. He doesn't have the constitution to go 12 with Liston.
