Can the Ezzard Charles who defeated the likes of Jersey Joe Walcott and Joe Louis AND became Heavyweight Champion, do the same to the Big Bad Bear?
Love Charles, but against Liston, prime vs prime he'd only prolong the inevitable. Liston would be to strong, too skilled, and too vicious for Charles to get beyond 8-9 rds tops.
Depends on when In the 60s. A 49 Charles could potentially do to a 69 Liston what Leotis Martin did and he would be ahead on the score cards unlike Martin. But a 1960 Liston is a different animal. I think Charles could make it much more competitive than Floyd Patterson did. He probably performs closer to how Eddie Machen did. But Liston’s size and strength is daunting. If Charles fights a survival fight, he may win a few rounds on the score cards but drop a decision. If he goes at Liston and tries to trade, he eventually gets knocked out.
