Sonny Liston beats George Foreman

I think that sonny takes this by tko. He was simply a better boxer than foreman, had more stamina and he hit just as hard. His better command of the fundamentals and superior stamina are the main differences.

Liston could last into the later rounds without huffing and puffing, foreman couldn't. His thing was to get his opponents out quickly so he never really trained to go the long haul. If he fought a good fighter who lasted past the middle rounds he was in trouble because he started to run out of gas.

Liston was much more disciplined and his offense was more controlled. He was more systematic in his attack and when needed he could go the distance and still had something left in the tank.

Liston in his prime sort of reminds me of foreman in his second career, and incidently I think that the older foreman would have had a chance to win because he actually became a better boxer and he learned how to pace himself.

It's not a given that Foreman hit harder than Liston. Wepner has been adamant on camera that Sonny hit him harder than George, and it is a fact that Liston decked Chuck with a short right body shot seen on youtube, while Foreman never had Wepner down. (As with Sonny, George stopped Wepner on cuts.) What we can clearly see though is that Liston had better punching technique, and straight punches generally prevail over looping shots.

 

Foreman overpowers Liston. Foreman stops Liston within 6.

 

Liston's achilles heel, his lack of fast feet would not be a factor here, his better boxing ,and better defence get him the win, imo It could be a great one but Charles is left standing at the end.

If you are talking about the Clancy version that fought Lyle and Young, Liston has a chance.
