interesting match up. neither fighter beat anyone as good as each other by a long way. Liston beat floyd patterson who did not perform at all against him and struggled with big cat williams who was no better than peralta who young foreman struggled with. Frazier did at least perform against foreman he just wasn’t a great fighter at that time, a great fighter gone soft. Young Foremans pre title opponents were simply terrible. Talk about a padded record! Foreman just was not the finished article as a champion first time around, he had talent but was a pretty immature man-child at that time. Liston was more seasoned and polished but is totally over rated and was not a good champion what ever way you look at it. liston's rep is built on his time as a contender in a way no other champion is. As a champ he fizzled out immediately. Its like he had no stomach to be a champion. Its a case of would liston fizzle out or would George gas out? the winner could go either way. George had more balls but at his best was never ready for a peak liston and liston wouldn’t have a size advantage so hes not blowing away foreman either. Maybe foreman takes a beating for a few rounds, gets knocked down like he did with Lyle -and nearly did against ted gulick. If he survives and the early beating prevents George from starting so fast (if he has something left in the tank) there is every chance George could get through and bludgeon liston into ***** street for a TKO by round 5.
