Sonny Liston (Clark '68) vs. Joe Frazier (Ali III '75)

Hard to measure Sonny Liston after 1966,,,,,,,
Going by his reseached and found birth date {1928} he was 40, when he fought
Henry Clark in July 1968.
A damn good performance, by any fighter, versus Henry Clark.

He should have won The Ring Magazine 'Comeback Fighter of the Year' for 1968.

Sonny was vulnerable to straight rights over the top, and inside left hooks to
the body.

Since Joe's right hand was more of a swat, the left hook would have to be used
overtime.

Smokin Joe would win, but he would defintely get lumped up.

 

Close to negligible difference in my opinion, but I know spanish Foreman Hook will argue whilst foaming at the mouth about Foreman 'shitting' on Liston or something.

 

In a way, I'm sad, as he made sure I'm never thought of as the worst poster since all I do is post sarky stuff about Dempsey on occasion and type lacklustre opinions to an even shoddier standard, but his sheer nutjob aggression was starting to grate.

 

Frazier stops Liston in 8 or 9.

 

Tough pick. Ali brought out the best in Frazier by calling him things like an "Uncle Tom" and a "gorilla". I doubt Liston resorts to that but if I'd had to pick then Liston wins by a narrow decision. Interesting fight.

 

Would have liked to see Joe Frazier take on Henry Clark in 1968/1969 or 1973/1974.

Then we would have gotten a better idea on how a Liston vs. Frazier bout would have been.

 

Frazier-Clark would have been really interesting, because Joe would have bypassed Henry's chin. Norton was also known for good body work, and he was the only one aside from Liston and Shavers to stop Clark. (Putting Henry on the deck would have been an ostrich feather in the cap, but nobody ever managed it.)
