    March 21st, 1960.
One time in Houston, Texas, I was scheduled to interview Sonny Liston after his second fight with Cleveland Williams. After Sonny made his way out of the ring, I finally got a hold of him.
“Sonny, how was the fight? What do you think of Williams?”
“I think he’s a good, powerful fighter, he sure hit me with everything. Williams is the hardest puncher I’ve ever seen. The first round was a helluva round. He hit me with hooks, uppercuts, and I was positive I was gonna go down. After the first round, I had cuts under my eyes, and a bloody nose. My corner told me to jab and use my right hand to take him out. My left hook is better, but Williams was open for the punch.”
“What do you think of heavyweight champion, Floyd Patterson?”
“He’s a good champion. It’s too bad I gotta fight him in the ring instead of in the gym or something’. I bet Williams’s left hook is stronger then Floyds’. If I can take Floyds hooks then I sure can win.”
“You think that’s all it takes? To get by his hook?”
“Yeah, man. That’s his money punch. His right hand is good but nothing’ special.”
“Alright… Good luck with you’re next fight Sonny!”
    “Thanks Bob.”

Liston always had respect for Williams.

If Williams had beaten Liston, Floyd might have ducked him too.

I'm really suprised that those punches didn't knock Liston out tbh. those hooks were deadly.

Yeah Liston was a tough guy, a real bad ass. But he had a nice personality and he was a pretty cool guy. **** with him and you're dead though.

Ahh, Kenny, as stated before Williams, in his prime against Sonny, was taller, stood up to him, punched as hard as a hammer, and no Sonny didn't back down at all but beat the crap out of him. Who is this big heavy you keep implying Liston ducked pal? The cards were close to even at the end of the first Ali bout, the second bout was canceled with Ali's injury and Sonny having reached by accounts his last championship form in great shape. While training for the bout again accounts tell of a over night old Liston who stumbled and was beat in sparring and had difficulty hitting the speed bad and jumping rope. It would have been interesting seeing a real bad ass as Sonny was in the William's goes against Ali.---Some peoples children I tell ya.

Right is that why he use to beat up Thugs on the street? And when he use to beat up police men? And when he use to be a bouncer?
    Liston was a bad ass.

Sonny got a little too bad out in Las Vegas in 1970.

He was strong-arming the wrong people.
