Yeah...and then you woke up....Frazier was a much better Heavyweight champ than Liston...Joe with his constant pressure...his left hook...never giving up....unlike Sonny....and Sonny...who was slow...ponderous...and a quitter...never forget that kids...that plays into the "dream" matches!

He was not slow, like at all. He caught Patterson(fastest HW champ ever) in the first round TWICE in a row. Also, where does him being a quitter come from? Marty Marshall broke his jaw and he fought for several more rounds after. If it comes from Ali, Liston and Ash Resnick both made $35M from him losing that fight and the second fight he obviously intended to arise. Also, use ... one more time and the damn key is going to break on your keyboard, poor key cant catch a damn break.

Liston was easily one of the slowest heavyweights to ever hold the title I don’t see how that’s debatable he was lumbering.
Patterson was very fast but he came straight at you he slammed into Liston but didn’t have the physicality or mind he developed later for that sort of fight.
Sonny caught him but another slower fighter in Kostya Tszyu caught Zan Judah. It’s all timing and says a bit about how clever a fight can be.
He got his jaw broken by Marty Marshall (never seen a source on this?) but that guy wasn’t a threat to Sonny Lol it was also early in his career - he was learning on the job different environment to being battered by Ali with ease while you have the belt. Sonny quit that is a fact.

I watched Klitschko/Ibragimov's first stanza and I've got to be honest, man...I think I'm done. I might as well stop here. Boxing does not hit a higher level than this. I'm sure Frazier and Liston are good but this is like that plus like a hundred and fifty years or whatever for blk+wht.

Having someone run at you doesn’t negate your speed advantage. Joe Fraizer is a great example of this, he would run at opponents and use superior speed to maneuver in a way he couldn’t be hit. Patterson did the same to opponents, which Liston was fast enough to destroy. Obviously when I say a boxer is faster than another im not claiming Liston beats Patterson in a foot race.
I would be inclined to agree if not for the framing. Did Liston give up? Yes, objectively yes. But was it due to being outclassed or something similar? Not a chance. He had $35M from that forfeit, as did Ash Resnick.

Would be sonny early or Joe late !! Would be usual for Liston fighting someone who wasn't scared of him ! Joe wouldn't give a **** . Not sure how Sonny would cope with that !!

Where did you get $35m from? Each? In 1964?

That's over $280m each in today's money. Source, please.

Give it up. You're arguing with the most Anti-Liston guys on this forum.

Obviously Liston in his prime was not slow, and a cursory viewing of his earlier fights would show this.

Are you pulling a Dr Evil/Austin Powers on us Sonny?:lol:

I have no idea what their purses were as at 1964 but a million in 64 would translate to about 10 million today.

Though I will say that the mention of 35 million does make me ‘Orny.

Exactly Swag. Prime Liston was not slow.

Some posters don’t actually dialogue with the intention to reach the truth.

Rather, they wish to pump their preconceived beliefs instead of collaborating.

It wasn’t worth imparting to a certain other poster - but I will say that in Ali’s auto bio, The Greatest, Muhammad Ali, My Own Story, Muhammad acknowledged that the lineament on Liston’s shoulder transferred to his forehead and seeped into his eyes from there.

Aside from his histrionic reaction during the fight and perhaps a few post fight comments, I don’t recall Ali ever returning to, let alone accenting, on the belief that Liston deliberately dipped the gloves to blind him.

Shortly after the fight, Ali left any such accusations well alone - and, in fact, in acknowledging the manner of the transfer of the substance (see above) he clearly had acceptance that the caustic substance got into eyes by happenstance.

Tell a Liston Hater the same (the FACTs - as per above) they simply can’t or refuse to process the information just because it doesn’t fit their preferred narrative re Sonny.

It wasnt from a purse, it was betting against himself. Also, maybe the math was wrong. Very possible.
