Ok......time for some more history lessons ( I really should be getting paid for this ).So according to you Liston had no right to have his fight with Ali postponed because fighters traditionally fight on despite serious handicaps. Now read ( and do try and make an effort to absorb this information ) : In 1982 Marvin Hagler postponed his fight with Fulgencio Obelmejias because of an injured rib. In 1983 Marvin Hagler postpone his fight with Wilford Scypion because of an injured knee. In 1982 Thomas Hearns called off a proposed fight with Marvin Hagler because of an injured finger. Rocky Marciano postponed his rematch with Jersey Joe Walcott because of an injured nose. In 1955 Sugar Ray Robinson's fight with Bobo Olson because ,according to the doctor,Sugar Ray was feeling too tired to go through with the fight. In 2005 Vitali Klitscko twice postponed a proposed fight with Hasin Rahman because of an injured thigh and an injured knee. In 1982 Gerry Cooney postponed his fight with Larry Holmes because of an injured shoulder. In 1982 a proposed fight between Mike Weaver and Tex Cobb was postponed twice--when Weaver injured his shoulder and Cobb cut his lip. And of course Big George postponed his fight with Ali because of a cut over his eye. No doubt you consider guys like Hagler,Marciano,Foreman,Weaver,Hearns and Cobb to be wimps because they postponed fights merely because of these injuries ?
Ali never mentioned Liston ever in his toughest fights while he mentioned Doug Jones, Chuvalo, Cooper,Frazier, Bonavena and Norton but there is not any single quote where Ali talks how Liston gave him toughest fight which is insane even to claim but hey, for Liston crazy fans everything is possible. How can injured shoulder be worse than broken back? Maybe to you but ask any man close to you what is worse, a broken back or injured shoulder. Liston was twice bigger than that bum Marshall.
Wow another excuses lists for your hero but did Frazier and Patterson had worse injuries? Yes, still no one pulls so many excuses for them as you, Liston fans do.
And still all of these fighters fought and won more fights while being injured than the numbers of fights they postponed. Did Marciano fought injured? Did he ever quit? He fought injured and never quit unlike your hero.
Just one problem with your statement-----Liston didn't quit. But carry on,take your time to make your next absurd mistruth.
Why should anybody need to make excuses for Frazier and Patterson ? Nobody is questioning the courage of these brave men.Only a total idiot would question the courage of any professional boxer, especially if they were as successful as Frazier,Patterson......and Liston.
The type of injury afflicting Patterson's back was no doubt extremely painful but I'm surprised that you have the medical expertise to know that it was definitely more painful than the conditions/injuries affecting Liston. Did I say you had medical expertise ? Maybe not. After all you did confuse a ruptured sacroiliac joint with a '' completely broken back ''.
Yes Ali did say that Liston gave him his toughest fight. Now a much wiser poster than you did question the validity of Ali's statement quoting the same fighters that you have mentioned ( hmmm......you haven't been copying another poster's work have you ? ) as also giving Ali extremely tough fights.I agreed with the point this poster was making as he expressed it in a mature, nuanced way ( please take note of this ).However I did say this illustrated that Sonny gave Ali a very tough fight. You can find Ali's comments about the Liston fight quite easily on the net,and Ali always emphasised that he regarded Sonny Liston as one of the greatest heavyweight-champions in history (but you wont like that part ).
He did quit in both fights, first fight he quit on his stool and the second fight he quit by acting to be KOed so he would not be beaten even more badly than in the first match.
Yet you are making thousand excuses for Liston like only he fought injured in boxing history. Many fighters fought injured, some won and some lost a fight but they did not quit, someone won injured against some greatest boxer and still did not quit...unlike Liston.
The bad thing for your is that I have medical school and that I am certified nurse, with nursing high school so I know something about medicine more than you. I worked in hospital for 9 months as a volunteer so I know many things about human body that you do not know. Anyway injured back means reduced movements but no only in the back but in many other parts including your hands, legs and neck since that the back is controlling many things not just the back. Injured or broken vertebra could make a professional fighter a cripple not only his back but his whole body. So yeah, Patterson injury was quite more bad than Liston injured shoulder, because you can survive with injured shoulder but how you can survive with injured back?
Ali never said that, because you are lying as always, if you dont post that but you wont because Ali never made such a claim. Liston never gave Ali tough fight and it was never his toughest fight. The toughest fights of Ali first carer were 3 bouts: Chuvalo, Cooper and Doug Jones, while his 2nd carer were fights with Bonavena, Frazier and Norton.
