Yeah, it also seems odd that local mobsters would go try to "stage" a heroin overdose and then try to make it look like an accident. Most hit men just sort of killed the guy and left quickly. If you kliled someone, it was to send a message. Seems like holding Liston down and shooting him up (when he was supposedly deathly afraid of needles) and "hoping" he overdosed isn't exactly a sure-fire way to kill someone. A bullet would be much easier. I think Liston probably just overdosed because he hadn't done it much before. It's not like there were huge bets being placed on Liston-Wepner. It was a pretty nondescript fight when it happened.
