Aside from capabilities, as much as we might speculate on Liston’s street abilities - his apparent propensity for engaging in street style fights is equally important.

No aspersions on Lewis’ own potential street abilities or courage, he just doesn’t strike me as the type to go all or nothing in the street - and for whatever they’re worth, I think we have fair examples of that mindset in the ring.

However, in balance, we also have examples of Lennox getting down and dirty as much as might be allowed in the ring vs Michael Grant.

I’ll just say when Riddick Bowe approached to apologise in more recent years. Lennox looked a bit concerned and stood up - perhaps some trepidation as to what Bowe might do - but it’s not a lock that Lennox wouldn’t have hung around to reciprocate whatever Bowe tried on.

I would’ve loved it to have been Liston who Bowe was approaching - then for Sonny to remain perfectly still and give Riddick that “I’m gonna kill you” stoney stare. Whatever his street abilities, Liston also benefited greatly from the intimidation factor.

I’m sure once he earned his rep, there were quite a fights in the street that Liston didn’t even have to engage in - his mere presence and history in tow being sufficient to coerce the desired outcome.

That has to be the very essence of stupidity---two goons trying to take on Sonny !They should have
    waited for more back-up !!
Respect to your friend who sadly passed away.

    It's certainly baffling at times.

If you matched Holmes up in street fights against this one and that one, guys with a bit of a reputation for street fights, many are going to say well Holmes has bugger all experience in street fights and Billy Bob, well he was a feared man. Well the story is Holmes was fighting every weekend on the street for about a year, taking on all comers. Even if it was an exaggeration he's still had a truckload of fights on the gravel.

True, but I will say this: A sober Mitch Green would have given Mike Tyson hell, may have beaten him in that situation. Mike knew what was up.

True, but if this was to go down, he would definiltely be closer or on Mitch's turf. Wouldn't be good for Sonny, not at all.

Thanks my friend. Peter B. told me that those two goons were a bloody mess as they were being wheeled into the waiting ambulance.

Liston beat them at cards, when he had his back turned they charged at him from behind, Sonny then thrashed both of them, they were good sized according to Pete B.

I'll just stick to what really did happen, when they actually did have a street fight.

When I saw Greene against Tyson I kept wondering...why is this man so insane? Its like he was having freak out moments with the way he was wildly swinging punches. Once I read up on it and learned Greene was actually coked out of his mind for this fight, it all began to make sense. The coke hit him harder than Tysons punches did.
