Sonny Liston vs David Tua

Liston decision. Probably wide UD. He’d realise early on how durable Tua is and stay behind the jab. Liston had good skills and head movement and box all night. Tua would try to get inside. Even if he landed a good hook I think Liston at worst survives a knockdown, not show how hurt he his or holds on and survives a couple of scary moments to take the decision.

 

Tua ain't got a chance.

 

Of course he does. If Liston goes all out he gets slept as his chin isnt on Tuas level

 

Sonny faced much heavier hitters than Tua in his prime. His chin is pretty stable.

 

Liston inside 3. Tua isn’t in the same solar system, let alone zip code, as Sonny Liston, no matter how much the “worship big punchers” brigade here loves him.

The fight was taken out of Tua with a single big right hand by Lewis in their 2000 title fight. I suspect Liston gets a feel for Tua’s sturdiness of chin & switches tactics, digging to the body. Tua will go into his shell & be made to quit for mine.

There is a small chance Tua could win if he caught Liston early & went after him. It’s not impossible but he really doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.
