It's curious people love liston more and more as years go by. It hapens to me too, I'm not criticizing, just pointing it out.
Is this the classic forum? Are they fighting next? (LOL) Wilder by KO. Wilder is the hardest puncher in boxing history. He's been wasting everyone even though he hasn't outweighed an opponent in nine years. Sonny Liston made his name knocking out guys who were 5'7" to 6' and 180-190 pounds. Can you imagine if Wilder fought people he routinely outweighed by 30 freaking pounds? Who'd beat him? Wilder would look like Bob Foster wasting light heavys. How many fights did Liston have against 6'9" 270-pound world heavyweight champs? How many times has Wilder been one-punch KOed by a 6-foot 190-pound Leotis Martin-type? How many times was Wilder outpointed by a light heavyweight like the 6-foot 170-pound Marty Marshall? The biggest man Liston ever fought was the Bayonne Bleeder Chuck Wepner, and Liston couldn't even put him away. Wepner had to basically bleed out before the fight was stopped on cuts. The most weight Liston ever gave up was 15 pounds to Ponce De Leon, a journeyman with a losing record, and he couldn't knock him out, either. Liston feasted on guys who would be a full division, if not two, below him today. Liston didn't move his head. Liston didn't fight big opponents. Liston was a target that Wilder obliterates. Wilder is taller, stronger, faster, maintains his distance, doesn't brawl in clinches. Liston wouldn't be able to do anything while missiles came his way. Liston was a classic bully who quit when the guys got to be his size and he couldn't bully them anymore. Easy pickings for Wilder. Hell, Sonny wouldn't even bother taking a dive two minutes into the fight, like he did against Ali. He'd just bail at the opening bell. Keep walking ... all the way home ... back to his residence on Ottawa Drive ... toss Geraldine out the door ... shoot up a big syringe full of heroin ... And say, "**** that." Liston would eat his soul. Cops used to break nightsticks on Listons head and body and he wouldn’t go down. Liston had one of the best and hardest jabs in history. I would be shocked to see Wilder get past round two.
They broke nightsticks over tens of thousands of black heads in the 50s and 60s ... they broke nightsticks over Rep. John Lewis' head. They broke nightsticks over Miles Davis' head. That doesn't mean they would beat Wilder, for ****'s sake. (LOL) And scrawny Leotis Martin must've hit harder than a nightstick, because Liston was out cold. Also, Sonny Liston had one of the hardest jabs in history if you were 5'7" and weighed 190 pounds and couldn't get around it to get inside. Wilder is 6'7" (a half a foot taller than Liston) and doesn't fight on the inside. Liston can't beat Wilder on the outside, Liston didn't move his head, and Liston would be the smaller man for a change. It would be one of Wilder's easiest fights. Liston was fighting guys the size of Badou Jack. And he wasn't even stoppin all of them. Different era. Wilder kills him.
If Joe Frazier makes it out of the first 3 rounds, which imo he would( not every big puncher is guaranteed to do a foreman) then Liston has his hands full hugely. Unless he stops joe I guarantee his pressure would tell late
