Wouldn't be a bad choice. Evander's speed and workrate on the inside might allow him to take the Decision though. I'd say he had a bit more versatility to his game, but Liston's long, clubbing jab and power would be a handful for Evander to work with as well. Very close call.
Just cant go past commander evander on this one. Liston is a chance of blowing out a lot of the best heavyweights throughout history but Holy is just not a guy who I could see getting blown out. A bigger guy could wear him down, and a more mobile, faster guy like Toney could outbox him but Liston was neither of these. I see it being all Holy after a few difficult rounds.
I think he'd have problems with the jab, but I think every punch in Liston's arsenal was effective, not just the jab which he's most touted for. If Evander ain't careful he might even get rocked good on one occasion. I think Liston's ability to fight on the outside, as well as on the inside would be the edge for him. Liston MD Holyfield. What do you think?
I think Liston's jab would give him fits in certain spots, but he'll have a lot of trouble keeping Holyfield from coming in.
Not sure. Liston undoubtedly had the superior power, reach, and jab. Holyfield had the better speed, movement, and versatility. On the inside, it would be a close battle, despite Liston's power advantage, because I think Holy was just a bit more crafty inside. On the outside, while Liston does have the jab and reach advantage, Holyfield has the overall movement advantage, and managed to outbox Bowe for the most part on the outside during their bout. I think both fighters are capable of hurting the other, but if Holyfield tried to play Liston's game and keep it in close, in range of his power, he would eventually taste it, though he may be winning up to that point. I'd actually probably slightly favor Holyfield though, due to versatility. Great fight though.
The younger Liston of the late 50's(around '60 or so as well) was the best version. Look at the length of his jab. [yt]Uo_AVSvpFMg[/yt]
I like Holyfields speed in this particular fight. Holyfield could put together great combinations on the inside, and was fine enough on the outside to at least negate Liston's jab with head movement. I'd say Holyfield might be rocked, maybe even go down, but would end up winning by four or five points, in a fight I'd see similar to Holyfield-Bowe II.
