Sonny Liston actualy offerd to fight both the previous two champions on the same card.

How would he have done if this had gone ahead?

Given how easily dusted Patterson without breaking a sweat, he probably would have been fresh for Ingo and likely would have beaten him just as handedly.

Of course, it would be interesting to see what would have happened if Ingo had gone first, and perhaps managed to give him a few rounds. Then put Patterson in the ring, and see if the previous fight may have effected Liston.

Obviously, Floyd goes down in a heap quickly.

However, I think stylistically Ingo offers more problems for Sonny. I say it would go 6 or so with Ingo stinging him once or twice before the inevitable.

Floyd could of lasted a lot longer than he did, I'm convinced of that.

He was bullied as a kid and as a result carried a serious insecurity around for the rest of his life. A nearly crippling one.

He tried to prove something to himself by going right at Liston, both times.

Charging the bully has never been the smart way to beat the bully, though.

Considering Patterson can't last longer than 100-something seconds, this is basically the same as Liston-Johansson. Basically it would be a properly warmed up Liston vs Johansson. I would like to see that fight though. Ingo had a questionable jaw, but it would be interesting to see what happens if he manages to connect with his right.

I don't see this. The Rabbit was made for Sonny, a lunging, under-sized guy who took lots of chanes.. Styles make match-ups. Just look at how Machen took Liston 12 and Liston had to foul him into retreat. Meanwhile, Ingo whacks out Machen in one. I think Liston would respect Ingo's power, would work the jab and take his time, ultimately taking him out in the mid-rounds.

I always thought that Patterson could have done much better against Liston than he did. He had the boxing skills and the quickness of hand and foot to have given Liston a good fight and maybe even winning a decision. As far as Johansson goes it would have been interesting to see what Liston would do if Ingo had planted that right hand bomb on him. All in all the evening would more than likely end with two Liston knockout victories.

It all depends how ****ed Sonny is after the first fight and how long his recovery is. He may be punched out after the first and unable. Imagine if Patterson ran for 15rounds and sonny won but was gassed to high heaven then he gets smashed by Johansen 5miniutes later, hes probably getting ko'd

    Ingo was made for sonny

Feather Fisted Brian London Knocked Ingemar Johansson out cold. As did Floyd Patterson

    Machen vastly underestimated Ingo

Sonny had trouble with movement/mobility. Ingo had none of this. He did not move his head, he calmly slowly circled and stalked his opponent. Ingo would be standing right in front of liston trying to have a jabbing match. Ingo was there to be hit. This would all lead to ingos downfall because when liston opened up on Ingo it would be done.

Liston was also far more durable...he took clevleand williams, nino valdez, mike dejohns best shots all 3 were far bigger than Ingo.
