A good old slugging match but liston also uses his brain and doesn't completely commit to standing in the middle of the ring slamming away. He also mixes in the jab and uses defence. Eventually liston gets the upper hand and cracks through to ko Ike in the last couple of rounds.
I got Liston too. That jab...the man really had good skills. He most likely stops Ike Ike just wasnt around long enough to get enough of a read on him
A fight for the ages. The high volume hard punching Ike vs the power punching Liston. Ike out works Sonny on pts over 12 rds. However like the Tua fight he would be ruined ( Ike complained of terrible headaches after Tua fight ) after absorbing Liston hellacious power shots.
Great match up. I think this is 50/50. Liston was tough, but Ike was crazy tough. No one goes toe to toe with David Tua for 12 rounds and walks away still conscious let alone getting the decision. If Sonny can't stop Ike early,Ike's workrate wears Liston down and stops him late.
Ike 6'2", 235 lbs, 76-in reach. Liston 6'1", 218 lbs, 84-in reach. Liston plays it smart and uses long jab to gain a UD.
I like Sonny's great left hook off the jab to close the show. Most likely the second half of the fight. Ike was no defensive wizard and he eats stiff jabs and once he slows down or shows the effects of a tough physical bout, Sonny comes in with the heavy artillery and the ref stops it. I'd like to have seen the same skillset with the Ibeabuchi footwork and mobility as he had from the waist up. He could really use those tools in this matchup.
