i guess we have a fundamental difference as to what constitutes a huge puncher. Because Miteff was the best fighter DeJohn ever knocked out. Much like Williams his record is padded with KOs over nobodies. Im not really impressed by a bunch of KOs over tomato cans. Maybe you are. Lots of guys can do that, its a way of life for most fighters today snd thats why they are matched soft and why the sport sucks today. Im impressed by guys who carry their power into the class of contenders where you find actual talent. Guys like Williams and Dejohn never did that. So while you drool over their “power” which to me equates to nothing more than hitting a heavy bag really hard, Im more impressed by the results that supposed power brings. Johannson, Liston, guys like that actually carried their power into the top ten and beyond. Williams never did that. Thats entirely the point.
Cut the ****. Williams fought Machen in Williams hometown and only got a draw. The officials were all Texas officials. And because Williams hometown crowd booed the draw you want to paint it as Williams got robbed?? Williams himself said he thought he should have fought harder and that the fight was close going into the tenth which Machen won on every card and which was his best round. So please quit with trying to pretend Williams was robbed.
Please show me where I said Williams was robbed. Everything I said was correct was it not? 1. Did the judge who didn't score the fight a draw have Williams the clear winner? 2. Did anyone significant score the fight for Machen? 3. Did the majority of the crowd think Williams had won? 4. Did Williams lose to the best non-champion heavyweight in the world not named Sonny Liston according to the ratings? A simple yes or no to each of these questions will suffice.
People don't realize that there's no such thing as an opinion about who's more powerful. I've seen the measurements, Cleve was just more powerful. Plus explosive punchers Liston, Foreman, and Chuvalo all said he was one of the hardest punchers of all time, and they would know.
One stipulation klompton, you have argued your point on Williams well, but he was one of only two men to floor a prime Terrell, and the only one to knock him out. George Chuvalo couldn't do it. And although Zora Folley and Eddie Machen were past their primes, they were still dangerous, and they couldn't do it either. Terrell was cut badly on both eyes against Ali, and Ali couldn't do it. Williams did, pretty impressive I'd say.

Thank you! Williams has gone from being slighty overrated to being severely underrated! I don't think he was a world beater of some sorts, but he was much better than Klompton, Choklab, and Bokaj will ever admit.
You neglected to mention Miteff had only been fighting for only a year and was in his 15th fight against Dejohn, and that he'd just come out of a near 6 year retirement when facing Quarry, both the only people who beat Miteff "with less trouble than Williams." Mike Dejohn packed some power as well. George Chuvalo puts him on the same level of George Foreman as the two hardest punchers he ever faced. Liston also said he was one of the hardest punchers he faced. He also had wins over Whitehurst, Cleroux, Richardson, powell, besmanoff, etc.
Sonny looks at him the way Lennox looked at Briggs with 40 seconds to go in the fourth and starts hitting Johannson until he stops twitching.
