Dismissing Dempsey's opponnents because they were light heavyweights seems silly. In those days some of the best heavyweights were very small and not much bigger than light heavyweights. Some light heavys had considerable success against heavyweights. Dempsey was well under the current cruiserweight limit.

Ezzard Charles was very small, he only weighed a few pounds over the light heavyweight limit yet he had considerable success in the 1950s. Likewise, Archie Moore was a light heavyweight who had success at heavyweight.

 

What really impresses me is that you can spell "******." (The plebeians on the General Forum keep spelling it, "***it," "***et," "***get" or ***git.")
