Sonny Liston vs Jack Dempsey

Not the way he does at times.

 

I dont want to defend Dempseys period of inactivity but since such a big issue is being made of it I would point out that the top 5 of that period was made up mainly of people who Dempsey had fought previously or would fight later.

The only person who deserved a title shot in that period and got shafted was Harry Wills.

 

First of all, thank you, good to hear that I have most times the same opinion like a good poster like you. You know, I have both, Johnson and Liston in my Top15 HW-list (Johnson at 8th ca., Liston at 10th ca.), so it´s not so that I hate both and don´t have them in my list or anything like that. But when we compare now Marciano´s or Lewis career with Liston´s, we have to be honest that Sonny´s resume isn´t that great, which would be very important to place him at 2nd or 3rd place. Head-to-head he wouldn´t also be the strongest ever or so IMO...

John Thomas, who were these other many challengers that Dempsey avoided r failed to meet other then Wills?

To whoever called Dempsey a coward, why was he a coward in the ring?

Jeanette retired in 1919, the same year Dempsey won the title. Langford was old and had started going blind for years and was past it
