Sonny Liston vs Jack Dempsey

Even if we damn Dempsey for his inactivity in the latter part of his title reign it dose not alter the fact that his title oposition and his overall body of work is better than that of most other dominant champions.

I curently rank him at No5 and you would be hard put to pull sombody from my 5-10 with a better series of scalps.

 

From Your 5-10 perhaps. From other's 5-10, is another story.

I can't see why Dempsey should be rated as high or higher than the fighters listed below in no particular order.

8. Sonny Liston
9. Floyd patterson
10. Mike Tyson
11. Evander Holyfield
12. Jim Jeffries
13. Jack Johnson

 

Good solid list, but I have only 2 things who I personally don´t like: Patterson is a bit too high, and Jeffries too low, I mean, he completely dominated his era and ducked noboby, he even fought black fighters like Jackson which was abnormal back in this times...

 

I constructed the list in no particular order. The point was to show Janitor that Dempsey can't be rated above any of those men. Janitor has Dempsey rated at like #5 on his list.

 

Liston has a mystique about him--ex-con, thrown fights against Ali, died early--and that's it. He was good contender who cught title shot against weak champ, and lost title right away, plus never was serious contender again.

Dempsey, Marciano, and Louis are top 3 of all time in my opinion, with Tyson right there close to them. Ali is way overated, Dempsey way underated.

Ray Arcel rated Dempsey over Louis,I have his opinion on video,is he qualified enough for you,he spent quite a few nights pumping up his biceps ,carrying Louis opponents back to their corners! You talk about Dempsey as though he had no balls yet run up Liston,Liston quit whenhe got a mouse under his eye ,and it was apparent he was in for an arse whipping .Dempsey ,trying to regain his crown took a shellaacking from Tunney and had to be lead to ring centre to shake Tunneys hand,for thre whole fighjt he never stopped trying ,and never took a backward step.Liston swallowed it twice against Ali.,he was a front runner ,with a bullys mentality.
