Well said sir. I think that unless you have Liston above Ali on any given list, you are not overating him. I think a case could be made to place him above everyone else on a head to head list, for example, though it is not my position.

    Thanks. Somehow missed this video.

I read that Liston was the only man to back Foreman up, in sparring. Foreman said he was shocked by Old Liston's power.

This one is marginally better, not least concentrating upon the fact that his absolute cryptonite, stylistically, was being born and made just as he came to the thing he wanted the most:

I'm going to go with Liston on this one, but with not a great deal of conviction. Johsnon would prove a tricky style for Sonny to solve.

You also have no doubt that Lewis beat a prime Tua. Sheer genius.

Johnson is recognized as one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time ... Liston had a hard jab which would be hitting air all night as it did v.s. Ali ... we saw what happens to Sonny then ... he looks for the fastest excuse to get out of the ring ... he quits.

I've always felt Liston's jab was slight over-rated myself. I mean I still think his jab is superb, extremely heavy but not as snappy as someone like Holmes' jab.

Johnson it's worth mentioning had a superb jab of his own, and was pratically flawless in defence and arguably the best counter counter of all-time in the heavyweight division, particularly in the aspect of slipping jabs and counter back with his own.

As I said, I think Liston wins rounds but I'm confident Johnson would be able to slip the jab and counter back and avoid getting hit enough to take even more rounds.

    Johnson UD 9-6.

i think he was more an innovator and/or ahead of his time in his time. his slappy, parrying style of defense would not last more than a few rounds with modern heavies. i'm not saying that with proper training and acclimation he could not adjust to fighters of the 50's and beyond, just that it is certainly not a sure thing. but if he brings that 1910 style into the ring, they would be carrying him out on a stretcher, against most upper-tier modern fighters, and i'm not even referring to champions.

Sonny Liston is nothing but a quitter. Never mind that 50-4 record. He's a quitter.

Roberto Duran is nothing but a quitter. Joe Gans is a quitter. Eric Morales is a quitter. Alexis Arguello is a quitter. Kosta Tszyu is a quitter. Tyson is a quitter.
