    Liston wasn't even born in 1903. Assuming that he was born that year, he'd have turned 61 the year he fought Ali.

    I've got Liston destroying Big Jeff.Jeffries would bravely hang in there but Sonny rips him .Can imagine Liston banging those hooks and uppercut s in and making Jeffries face in to a swollen mess .Ive got Jeff going to the canvas in the 12 th and the ref saving him from More punishment .

    So in 1960, you think Liston was 57 when he beat Williams, Folley and Machen? From looking at him on film, Liston being late 20s-33/34 seems very believable. Especially if you place him 30-34 years old.

    I did read in the Brittanica Encyclopedia that he was born "circa 1928". Which seems believable. In 1960, when he beat Williams, Folley, Machen that would have made him 31/32 that year and from his physical appearance, that seems about right.

    That's probably right. Poor Sonny had one hell of a hard upbringing. No wonder he looked a old guy in his 30 s .

    I don't think that the fighters that Liston met on the way up to the title, were necessarily better than those that Jeffries met up to his retirement.

    I also think that Jeffries was matched much harder and sooner, and still managed not to lose.

    It would be very imprudent to dismiss the possibility that Jeffries could have been a talent comparable to Liston.

    He looked noticably older in 1965 than in 1960. As if he aged 15 years in 5. Also, his drinking could have contributed to it as well. Alcohol ages you before your time. I've seen people in their late 20s, early 30s looks full 20 years older because of years of hard drinking and drugging.
