I was in the shower thinking about how Liston would have performed against Alis future opponents (Fraizer, George, ect.) and Joe seemed to me Alis first major test after Liston. After a long, treacherous, riveting and complex inner dialogue (5 minute shower thought) I came to the conclusion Liston would probably lose. My reasoning for this comes from my Liston vs Mike Tyson thread. I view Fraizer as Tyson but significantly better at everything (besides maybe head movement and strength.) anyways yea I believe Liston would fall to Fraizer. Whats your take? edit: seems like the one time i vote against Liston everyone on planet earth disagrees, this is why I never doubt the Big Bear.
I love Frazier, but I think that he'd lose to Liston. He had a weakness to big punchers, and Liston was much more than that. He had a suffocating style that would've made Frazier into a good meal for him. Let's not forget that Frazier got floored twice against Bonavena. Liston would've likely taken it like the Patterson fight, and charged in to try and take out Frazier early. The Bear typically had a more drawn out and calculative style, but went in more headstrong against opposition that was dangerous as to not give them any chances. And as for the Tyson comparison, I'd probably say that Tyson's superior in most ways to Frazier other than maybe strength. I just think that Tyson was too well conditioned to make it a fair comparison.
Even I wouldn’t pick Frazier. He’s not as without hope as he always would be vs Foreman - Liston had a more measured approach that leaves the door just narrowly creaking ajar for a Frazier victory - but it is slim & none. Liston about a 90% certainty for a KO, for mine. If Frazier won it, it would be days before I stopped jumping up & down.
Let's not forget that in Classic guys like Frazier are at no size disadvantage to their competitors. So I guess Frazier mops him up.
Yeah, about the size of Deontay Wilder or an in shape Andy Ruiz. Would fit right in with today's guys.
That's real flattering, man. I appreciate it. Boxing is one of my big loves, so I learn as much as I can about it.
