This could be even worse for Frazier then Foreman was.

I picked Liston. I'd be rooting for Frazier to show me wrong, and wouldn't be much surprised if he did.

Liston was a great fighter but a lot of his opponents did not perform very well against him because of the intimidation factor. He was excellent at taking the initiative and exploiting weakness. People say the same about Joe Louis and Mike Tyson too but both came back from knockout losses to become champions again. Not Liston.

Listons biggest wins were over Folley, Patterson and Roy Harris. These really were exceptional results. But it is just three guys he had big advantages over and two of them hardly hit back. Outside of Patterson, Harris and Folley anything else sonny did was expected. All good fighters beat those guys.

The machen win was not really as exceptional. The Williams fights were entertainers but overblown.

I just can't put that much faith in Liston against Joe Frazier as a lot of opeople are. Liston was a great fighter but so was Frazier. Sure Frazier had his faults but he proved he could win tough fights against great fighters.

There is a big difference between Joe Frazier and Roy Harris. Folley and Patterson could be better than Liston made them look. What if they underperformed?

I don't think Frazier could be intimidated.

Liston should very obviously be made a favourite on styles and physicality, both areas where he had serious advantages, but Frazier is special enough in a one-off fight that you can't write him off entirely.

I'm happy to say that for Frazier to win a trilogy against Liston 2-1 is as difficult a task as you could set any great heavyweight, just about. I'd say the chances of Frazier taking a trilogy with Liston is about the same as Liston taking one with Ali...

I also think Liston should start favourite. I understand why. As you know favourites don't always win. I would not like to guesse who wins a trilogy. On paper there is no reason why Liston should not have won a trilogy with Ali. He was coming off his best two wins, had the better resume, Ali was young and untested at top level at that point. He had not yet beat anyone as good as Patterson, Folley or machen.

    Yes, that's right.

    You should pick the favourite.

I see Frazier getting battered and running into Listons powerful jab the whole fight .

Liston by 4th rnd knockout .

Whoever tries to take the fight to Liston will inevitably lose .

No man in HW history can go toe to toe with Liston and prevail . Its just not going to happen .

He was too freakishly powerful and long .

Cleveland Williams was also one of his biggest wins .

Hell , he hit Liston back , He broke his nose in the very first rnd .

He was a fellow knockout artist who had a big hand speed advantage over Liston as well .

Unfortunately he took the beating of a lifetime , Liston broke him in 3 .

I agree with the end result but Liston was not usually as frantic on search and destroy as Foreman.
    Liston inside 7 rounds.
