Sonny Liston vs Joe Frazier

Sonny doesnt come out for round 7

 

Disagree here. I do recognize and understand how great Frazier was in his prime but this is a horrible styles matchup for him against a great fighter at his best. Listons hooks and uppercuts would batter Frazier into submission. Frazier will spend so much effort trying to slip listons jab that when he gets inside, listons going to club him to death. Liston was a ferocious infighter with incredible physical strength and brutal hooks and uppercuts designed to eliminate a style like Frazier’s.

 

I’d pick Frazier over any sub 215 classical boxer who ever lived..his whole style was designed to mow down the Ali’s, Holmes, Tunneys, Charles, and Walcott’s..
.but the 215lb big punchers? Like Liston foreman Tyson.? Awful matchups for Joe. In my opinion Yank Durham knew it and steered Frazier clear of punchers as best he could.

 

I'll take Fraziers hook over Sonnys any day of the week. Frazier grinds Sonny down and lays into his body something no one did befor. Frazier is deceptively fast of foot and his hook is as fast as alot of fighters jabs. Look how frequently he lands it. They know it's coming but cant stop it. Frazier by TKO not the size of the dog it's the fight in the dog and Joe is a vicious one at that. BTW Ali said Joe was the hardest opponent to hit cleanly his head movement was sr o fast. Sonny wont be catching him as easily as u think. All the while Frazier is blasting him with that hook and digging those rt shovels to the body.

 

Frazier isn't difficult to hit what happens when Liston hits back Frazier never beat a puncher of Listons caliber

Being able to string a sentence together helps too.Joe was far from dumb but he wasn't very articulate.

 

This myth of liston being a big bad monster is based on absolutely nothing but blabla williams and patterson .frazier from 1970 crushes liston

 

Frazier was alot more difficult to hit cleanly than most think. Just read opponents interviews about him.
What's Liston going to do when that hook is buried in him nonstop. Liston is far from being the only puncher here. Everyone seems to overlook Fraziers power here.

 

Except Sonny had it in both hands, plus that jab.

 

Just curious who do you pick between Liston and Foreman?

 

Depending on the day. Foreman has a huge edge in power. Sonny better skills. George much stronger. I dont see a whole lot comparable between the 2

 

Liston is better all round imo.George was way better at cutting the ring than Sonny ,but that wouldn't be a factor here.

 

Do you think the power difference is that marked?
