The folley fight is one I would like to see before placing my outside bet on schmeling. I have always liked folleys skill set, a quality fighter on film but going into the liston fight he was only 1-1-1 against rated fighters over the last 2 years where as outside of the baer fight and 2 strange decisions schmeling was near unbeatable for about ten years against the elite. Liston is often confused with being one of the first "super heavyweight's" but he was infact just a tad over 200lb -even if he had a lot of superheavyweight proportions and strength. Angelo dundee who worked the besmanoff corner against Liston in his 59' peak felt people got carried away with listons wins over patterson, he felt Liston was over rated at the time.
I Think Max might again "see Something" when he looks at Liston ....I fear this time for him it might be "the St Louis Infirmery Blues.."
Liston should be favored by decision, but if Max manages to frustrate Sonny and land those rights--hurting him, cutting him--the dog might come out of Liston and we could see an upset.
Yeah, but it wouldn't happen...again..Max lacks the lateral mobility that's so necessary to hang with and/or beat Liston.
To be fai thought, all the people confidently picking Liston, would have been equaly confident picking Louis, if the first fight never happened.
Max's win over Joe was a terrific upset but lets not forget Louis closed Smcheling's eye with his jab, Liston would do this and more ,I don't see Max getting the range for his right cross.Walker described him as a terrific short puncher , if he got near enough to Sonny to land he would be out gunned imo.Bad matchup for the Uhlan imo,he gets stopped around the 8thrd.
