I often refer to this as "The Fight That Shook Up The World". And I am curious if I am not too crazy about my own scorecard. I know they were even on the official scorecards. My scorecard goes 1: Ali : In this round Ali was scared shitless for the first minute but Liston has no effective aggression. Ali landed a hard combo on his head in this round and landed a few more jabs. So he wins 2: Even: None of them did much, Liston missed everything but a few shots, Ali hits him with a few too. 3: Liston: I gave Liston this as I didn't feel Ali threw much,he missed some but he landed a few. 4: Ali: This was the 3rd round in reverse except Ali didn't miss and Liston did nothing. 5: Liston: I do not have to explain why 6: Ali: After the desperation of the 5th round and Liston's cheating, He was broken mentally and Ali beat him up. Question 1: My Scorecard is 3-2-1 For Ali,what was yours? I just want to see if I was a good judge of it or if people agree? I want to rewatch this fight (Right now I am doing an Ali Marathon, Just watch Ali demolish, Patterson,Terell,Chuvalo,Williams etc) but I want to just watch his whole career first. Question 2: Also I have a second question. A lot of people say Liston was past his prime. But his last 8 wins were career defining,so I don't buy that argument, what do you think?
At last viewing I have it 3-2-1 for Ali. Liston was past prime but not too much so. Ali had n't peaked yet.
Could you break it down? thanks ahead The problem with the argument of Liston being past his prime is what he came off of, he was 35-1 and avenged his 1 loss twice once with a knockout. In his last 8 fights before Ali he only went the distance 1 time and none of his other 7 opponents went past the 3rd round. In these wins ,he won against Floyd Patterson twice in the 1st,he Knocked out cleveland wiliams for the 2nd time in the 2nd round. He got Zora Foley in 3. These are some of his best wins,so it is just hard for me to believe he was out of his prime during this time
I'll view it again soon to remind myself who won what round. Ali was definitely in the ascendant after his eyes cleared in the fifth. Sonny was still very dangerous around this time so the young Cassius Clay deserves all the credit for beating him.
