Remember the trouble Rocky had early against Joe Louis, because of Louis's jab? Well increase the jabbing strength by 20 and you have Liston's jab. Rocky was prone to cuts, throwing punches off balance and coming in leaving himself open. All three would lead to his downfall against Liston His susceptibility to cuts and bruises would only double because of that jab banging on him from the outside every few seconds. Liston used his jab like Frazier used his hook, as a weapon, he rarely followed it up because it did more damage than an average fighter's one-two. That would keep Marciano away early and also swell him up, cut him up early. No way Liston wears Rocky down because we all know about Marciano's stamina - punching opponents blocks whenever close enough trying to wear down their arm...he had endurance in spades! So Liston would have to end this via KO, not TKO or picking Rocky apart - and I think Sonny would do just that. If Rocky left himself open and vulernable like he did many times to Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Walcott (who KD him) and Archie Moore (who KD him) he eventually get caught with a flush Liston shot, who makes these guys look like pansies when it comes to punching power. After a few rounds of Rocky wading in and trying to slip, he gets busted up with jab after jab after jab. Liston cuts him over the eye, swells his face up and catches him with a left as Rocky comes in too quickly. A Sonny left is in other words 'lights out.' This all happens before the 6th. KO5 Sonny Liston
My two favorite HWs. I'm 50/50 on this one. If I had to pick, I'd pick Marciano. He had the ability to find a way to win, regardless of the circumstances. Walcott I and Charles II are good examples.

It seems 90% of the threads are regurgitations of heavyweight mythic match-ups that have been done a dozen times. zzzz....
How many times do we have to go through this? This dude always copies my previous threads. You obviously have no life, you're literally not even posting anything related to boxing (under this account at least), you're literally stalking me and waiting for me to post something. This is your first post in nearly a week, despite the fact you've been online everyday of this week for the majority of the day. :think
It's a tough fight for both whichever way you look at it. In order to win both Sonny and Rock have to do something they never got around to doing at championship level. Liston would have to prove he could win a competative championship fight and Marciano would have to prove he would beat that sized fighter in a championship fight. I'm happy not to post on this thread so long as nobody posts that it is a ridiculously easy fight for Sonny.
Marciano by TKO. When the going got tough...(Walcott 1 and the 2nd fight with Ezzard Charles)...he found a way to suck it up...and find a way to win. For Liston... ..when the going got tough...as champion...HE QUIT WHILE SITTING ON HIS STOOL!!!
