What was the purpose of it then? Somebody took Williams 1,200 miles from where cleaver usually fought to create some kind of interest. At the carefully matched 30-0-1 point of Williams career I doubt he went up there to get beat.

So let me get this straight.......

Williams was matched against a guy 7-3-0 in a FOUR round fight to garner interest in a Marciano - Williams world title fight?

    You are off your head.

    P.S. 30-0-1

The fight was only shortened to four rounds at the last moment. Williams had been matched in 10 round bouts 13 times so far.

P.S mr 30-0-1 versus 7-3, who’s matched to win that fight?

You are a good poster who seems to have derailed for whatever reason.I've no problem relegating you to the ranks of U Loudmouth and Jackoma, and you obviously have no problem being viewed as such.
    WTF it's your choice.lol WGAF?

Now of course you are going to provide us with proof that Williams was deliberately put on that bill to showcase him for a future fight with Marciano?
    I look forward to it!

Floyd definitely has a chance against Rocky but I don't think his chin would hold up in the long run.

So the phenomenon of a boxer fighting in a city other than his hometown is new to you?

When Williams travelled to Philadelphia back in 52 to fight on the undercard of Marciano-Walcott, did that "build up interest" in a showdown with Marciano?

I imagine that it gave him exposure to the bigger stage. Williams was certainly fortunate to get on two big shows like that wasn’t he?

It would be a pit bull against a bear. No matter how brave and determined the pitbull, it's a suicidal approach to go balls to the wall and slug against a larger, more powerful opponent whose equally ferocious. I have been waiting over a decade for someone to explain how Rocky wins with that sort of style being the smaller man. I can't think of any instances of that happening in boxing.

you are going to quibble about the level of these examples..but you just ain’t getting two exact replicas of Marciano or Liston since both were unique. And whilst it is insulting to compare these guys to a great fighter like Sonny, you asked for style rather than level. So please allow me to apologise in advance.

joe Frazier vs Buster Mathis. Buster is more defensive than Sonny would be, but he attempted to come forward in part of the rounds.

Lammon Brewster vs Wlad Klitchsko. 1st meeting. The size difference is similar. Of course both are bigger than Sonny and Rocky. However Wlad tries to push Brewster back.

Joe Frazier v Ramos, the weight difference is different and the styles consist of an inferior big guy, but a big guy coming to fight.

Tyson vs Bruno. Again, the weight people will quibble. And yes I know Tyson has the hand speed edge.

Marciano vs Louis. People will say it’s the Old Louis, but old Louis represents the same kind of size difference. Sonny is better than old Louis but by how much? 30%. Does 30% extra win that fight for Louis/sonny? old Louis, while no so longer explosive is still a decent level contender.

    You just compared...

Buster Mathis: an obese feather fisted outside fighter, and

Wladmir Klitschko: a cautious, glass jawed jab-and-grab technician (who did hit hard I'll give you that much)

    To Sonny Liston.

    Liston.
