A friend of mine Tom was a true Rocknista who thought he'd beat anyone he fought, we both knew a professional fighter Chris a jr. middleweight 5 "9-10 and walked around at 180-85 pounds with exactly a 69 inch reach. Tom was always saying how Marciano would wear Foreman out and Ko him. So we had a guy we worked with to come to the bar, Randy he was 6 foot 4 and weighed 235 pounds and his reach was around 80. We had him stand in front of Chris and asked Tom ,Chris is basically the same height and reach of Marciano, Randy is about the size of Foreman, looking at this do you honestly think he'd beat George Foreman? A sheepish grin spread across his face , he said, " well i'm not gonna say he couldn't" we said no,, your face already has. He never mentioned this again. He was smarter than other Rock worshipers .

Waclott was for sure at his best because he won HW crown at late age!He was at his best coming from best wins!It is not Rocky fault because he won championship at late age because need a time to become finish product! He was at his preak beating everyone!
Louis was not at his best but he came after 9 wins and 4 won by KO!
Going into their first fight, LaStarza's record was 37-0, with 19 KOs, and Marciano's was 25-0, with 23 KOs. LaStarza was 22 and Rocky was 26.
He beat Simmons,Cockell,Lowry all them twice, beat Layne and gave Marciano good fights! He was class for sure!

Satterfield who was LHW with poor reach beat huge Williams with same Liston reach only he was even bigger man than Liston!
Chris Byrd poor reach beat huge Klitchko with huge reach!
What did some REAL experts think about Marciano as a fighter?
"What's so often forgotten is that Marciano was truely a great fighter. It was his will to win that made him unbeatable." Archie Moore

"I had a bad weakness I kept hid throughout my career. I didn't like to be crowded, and Marciano always crowded his opponents. That's why I say I could never have beaten him." Joe Louis, May, 1990 issue of Boxing Illustrated

"Naturally, the first thought that comes to mind would have to be Muhammad Ali. Ali is more my time. But before my time, it would have to be Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano." Marvin Hagler when asked to name the greatest fighter of all time.

"Just look at Rocky Marciano's record. Nobody beat him. You can't take that from him." George Foreman on why he placed Marciano behind Louis as second greatest heavyweight of all time.

"Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight champion of all time. Rocky Marciano is second only to Louis." Joe Frazier

"Well, let’s face it. He never got licked. Undefeated heavyweight champion of the world. I mean, how much better can you do than that?"
"Marciano is the most underrated heavyweight of all time. He had so much more than they ever gave him credit for. He was capable of getting those bigger, heavier guys and destroying them." Angelo Dundee.

"This man was one of the greatest champions ever. He refused to accept defeat. And nobody beat him." Sonny Liston.

Same Rex Layne a powerful puncher, who knocked out 25 of his first 36 opponents. 69% ratio!
Same Rex Layne who lost all fights when he was past his prime!
Same Rex Layne who beat Walcott and Satterfield and only lost by UD against greatest fighters at old age!

A contender who beat two world champions is not scraping the barrel.

    Lets have a look.

Beat Charles? Well known to be a controversial decision.

Beat Walcott? Sure, the most inconsistent champ ever. Or at least one of the bottom 3.

Then among that he has a couple decent wins. You're God Satterfield, for one.

But then he has losses to Whitlock, James, Matthews and had Earl Walls end his prime. What a guy!

The protected Lastarza would be utterly destroyed by Liston. You want to put that to a poll?

See now I've sat on the sideline for many a Choklab Liston fiasco, and I think the trick is to go for Patterson, not Williams, since he can't go on a mad one without opening himself up for complete hypocrisy.
