Lyle on 73-76 takes place of Williams and fights Liston in 1960. Who wins and how?

Liston by KO inside 4 rounds. He was better than Lyle, plain and simple. Would be a terrific fight while it lasted though, but I suspect more one sided than Foreman-Lyle.

Liston would break Lyle down over the course of the fight. Lyle gets some stuff in but Sonny takes it better.
    Liston by tko 10 .

Everything that Ron did Sonny did better. Lyle would probably try to box a little but Liston`s jab would be a roadblock for him.

Ron Lyle should destroy him and then get matched against the winner of the David Tua vs Tony Galento thread for ultimate imaginary supremacy

I favour Liston, I think he was that bit better all round than Lyle. However, the caveat being that Lyle could possibly outlast and out-game Liston.

Yeah as Liston had better defense and technical ability than Foreman so wouldn't leave himself open to being hit as much as Foreman.

Sonny would wear Lyle down and stop him after a brutal beating in 8 or 9. I've always felt Liston was a tad underrated

IMO wouldn't take THAT long and you can change "TKO" to "KO".
Sonny would have put him in a puddle inside of 4!
To give Big Cat credit, he came out banging seemingly wanting to end it early. Lyle would have come out cautiously which would let Sonny get into his rhythm earlier (which he was unable to do in the first round with Big Cat.)
I repeat: What's Lyle's biggest win? I love Ron but it seems like so much of his rep is based on his fight with stupid, brain dead Foreman who wasn't going to get knocked out by Lyle anyway! Shavers? That might be his biggest but he was on ***** street in the second from the LH from Earnie only to be saved by the bell.
Sidebar: IMO Terrell would have beaten Lyle. Machen would have beaten Lyle.
Sidebar 2: To give Ron a little credit here, had he not had a late start with his prison thing, and had the right folks in his corner, and have had the opportunity to turn pro much earlier, you may well have seen a much more savvy specimen to contend with.
