Baer was terrified Jack Dempsey had to push him into the ring saying, do you want Louis to knock you out in the ring or do you want me to do it? He quit, and he said so himself , Louis said Baer tried to throw the fight .None of those you mentioned are anywhere near the same ball park as Liston or Williams for power Liston said ,Williams hits as hard as me but cant take it as well! None of those you mentioned were noted punchers, and none of them feature on any list of all time punchers, which both Liston and Williams do.
Carnera wasnt intimidating to any class heavyweight and ,if he was any good his managers would not have had to pay fall down artists to go into the tank for him! Baer had just finished a film The Prizefighter And The Lady in which he co starred with Carnera,he knew better than anyone that Carnera was a myth. Your response is perhaps the worst post you have ever made.

That's why I said "essentially" -- my point only being that what he's accomplished is the equivalent of four different guys' separate efforts at winning the title.

What is in Liston's favor here, is that he is not facing very good versions, of the two who might be capable of giving him some sort of fight.

Even so, it should ne noted that he started to neglect his training very quickly, once the title was in his hands.

Handing it to him in the first fight of the four, might just put some of these guys back in the fight.

Cute stories, but we can actually watch Baer taking a long beating before quitting. He might be scared of Louis or not, but he tried to fight back despite the injury. A lot of boxers would have been stopped earlier than Baer quited after taking such a beating. Stories are nice, but I prefer focusing on actual fights.

If we want to focus on quitting, then I think it's much more respectable to quit in a way Baer did than Liston vs Ali in the second fight. Why don't you expect Liston to quit in hypothetical fights as well? Be consistent.

The same with Williams - his supposed superpower gave him no advantage against the best fighters he faced. He didn't stop Liston, Ali, Terrel or Machen. He beat nobody notable. I don't see any reason to believe that Williams is much more powerful than Lou Nova. Nova at least stopped a few decent fighters.

Those "stories," are verified by Dempsey and Ancil Hoffman.Your statement that Baer wasnt scared of Louis is just so much tosh, I know it and you know it!
Now produce a verified source that Baer went into the ring with an injured hand. Liston laid down in the 2nd fight ,that's a bit different to quitting because you are terrified of your opponent.
I said your last post was probably your worst ever ,and I did so because I gave you credit for knowing you were talking tosh. Williams did stop Terrell in their 1 st fight and Terrell said he was the hardest hitter he ever faced. Its in a Ring magazine I own.
The quality of your responses is going irrevocably down hill and I can only put that down to you not being prepared to admit you are WRONG .not only WRONG but DEAD WRONG.
Nobody on this planet equates Lou Nova with Cleveland Williams regarding power!
Your credibility has taken a very steep nose dive with your ludicrous arguments here. You are a very decent poster when you aren't wearing your heart on your sleeve Do yourself a favour take a quiet look at yourself.

I didn't sayy he he wasn't scared, I said he kept trying and was stopped after horrible beating.
Don't be ridiculous, Baer got up multiple times, Liston stayed down after the first punch landed. I agree, it's not the same - Liston was much worse.
I don't think that's true and Nova had more evidences of his power. I value results over anectodes, sorry...

Sharkey at his best might last the distance a la Machen, the rest go early.

Show me any list of hardest punchers that Nova is on.
    You didnt say this?
"Baer quit because he took horrible beating, not because he was afraid of Louis.".

He didn't, keep trying, he stood there and took it and then quit on the floor fully conscious.

Why do you think that I should bother by this argument? List of the hardest punchers are always completely arbitrary and subjective, usually without any consistent criteria.

If you like using stories and opinions as your argumentation, it's fine but don't expect everyone to use the same criteria.
I said this, but you didn't understand my point. It may be true that Baer was scared of Louis (I don't see reasons to doubt it), but he got into the ring anyway, tried to fight back and ate a lot of punches before quitting. The reason of his quit wasn't his fear, he wouldn't quit without taking such a beating.
Maybe watch full fight instead? Baer ate a lot of punches before the stoppage, from arguably the greatest puncher ever. It's shocking that you even try to suggest the opposite. Do you want me to count how many punches Baer took cleanly before the stoppage or what?

Being one of your threads I had my fingers crossed for a “Toronto five” style fight or something similar I have come away from this staunchly disappointed in you. May Saint Preem guide your way back to the light and may your divisions be comprised entirely of him.
