So you think Witherspoon would beat Liston, then?

He'd have a chance. Witherpoon had ability, and a good chin. Could be the hardest proven puncher Liston fought as well.

Williams was known to be a pretty big puncher in his day. And George Foreman who sparred with an old Williams said that he was one of the hardest punchers he shared a ring with. Considering that he fought men like Stewart, Morrison, Frazier or Moorer, that is pretty impressive. And Liston fought a peak Williams.

I'm a Terrible Tim fan, and just recently re-watched him get robbed against Mercer. I like his skills, good body puncher with a hard-to-block right hand bomb. I just don't see him finding an answer to the Liston jab. Sonny on points or cut stoppage.

I don't ever recall seeing anyone beat the **** out of Witherspoon. He did not look like he got roughed up by Thomas when he lost the title. Even when Bonecrusher beat him, it did not look like he was very hurt at the end..Bruno lumped him up a bit... when he was older, Tims losses were not of the knocked out by one punch type

Liston I think beats him Witherspoon though would put up a fight. I think likely either a decision win for Liston or a late knock out.

That cross-armed defense is wide open for left hooks. Wrong opponent to let open that big of a window.

I think this is one of the worst possible opponents for Tim and he matches better against lots of other guys much better than he does Sonny.

And with a broken jaw against Marshall.
Anyone think Witherspoon didn't quit against Bonecrusher second time around?

Witherpsoon was a better puncher than DeJohn or Valdes.

Remind me which top ten opponents Cleveland Williams knocked out. You'll likely find one who was ranked when it happened. Williams easily landed and busted up Liston. He just had the chin of a light heavyweight.

Valdes wasn't much of a puncher, on film he's a soft heated big man.

Witherpsoon has some big wins, KO'd Bruno, out pointing Tubbs and Page, and easily beating Smith on points.

Williams, DeJohn and Valdes can't come close to matching this.

Liston by decison in a good competitive fight. The key here is the jab of Liston
