I give Berbick a lot of **** but he was nothing if not durable. Only Mike blew him out during his prime. I think Sonny would've blown him out as well though.........I don't envision a scenario where Berbick does much to trouble Sonny
Sonny before he breaks a sweat, probably a replay of Westphal if not Wayne Bethea. Berbick ain't got nothing in this or any known solar system or universe for Liston.
Liston will apply a more complete beating than Tyson laid on Berbick by pasting his face with a brutal jab and flattening him around the 4th or 5th
I think Berbick’s style would play right into Sonny’s hands and make him easy to hit. Liston probably gets him out of there early
Liston by 3rd round kayo. Berbick's physicality wouldn't bother him, ahd he would use that jab albeit briefly, to do the deed.
Berbick would try and fight with him like he did with Tyson (because Berbick tbf to him had heart a set of nuts) but the fight would go pretty similar to the Tyson one, Liston takes him out accordingly
Berbick was a significantly better fighter than he gets credit for, but Liston would ultimately make him look like a little girl (probably worse than Iron Mike did). Trevor had a terrible time with Holmes' jab, Liston's terrifying pole-axe would make him hesitant from the get go, and sooner or later he'd walk into something that would put him out. He didn't back off a whole lot, big mistake against Liston. He might make it into the 3rd. I doubt it.
Hmmmm a lot of love for Sunny on this page . I think Trev was barmy enough not to be worried by Liston and strong and fit enough to give him a hard night .Berbick was tough and bigger than sunny .if Liston didn't get him early it could be interesting evening with Trev taking a points victory.
Power Liston Hand speed Even Chin Even Footwork Berbick Defense slight edge Liston Stamina Even Technique Liston Ring IQ Liston Physical strength Even Heart Berbick On paper this is a pretty close matchup with Liston having slight edges in technique and ring IQ. Berbick's cross arm block, sturdy chin, and great endurance should allow for him to go the distance even if Liston manages to drop him. Likewise, I don't see Berbick managing to KO Liston either when the harder hitting Williams failed to do so in 2 attempts, and Berbick wasn't a very good finisher. Still, both guys could crack and were pretty aggressive so anything is possible, but I'd lean towards a decision. This wouldn't become some mindless slug-fest, it would be a back and forth war at mid range. Liston would be trying to keep Berbick at the end of his jab, going to the body, and timing Berbick for his big left hook or right hand. Berbick would be attempting to get past the jab and mix things up with combinations and looping shots around the guard. Long story short, Berbick puts up a very good fight with his rugged style, courage, and athleticism. He had the tools and talent for boxing and good natural strength and speed, but I always felt he wasn't putting in enough work learning the fundamentals of boxing. The most worrying thing for me was how much ease Holmes had landing his jab in every single round. Granted, Liston had a very different jab from Holmes, but I wouldn't be shocked if Liston found similar success making Berbick look foolish and dictating the pace. Berbick had enough boxing ability and strength to keep Liston honest and would have his moments. Liston either wins a clear decision in an entertaining scrap 8 rounds to 4, or (if Berbick ticks him off or Liston simply feels compelled to really step on the gas) stops Berbick within 9-10 rounds.
