Did you know Liston had far more issues with swelling and cuts than Vitali did in their fights as a whole? Probaly not. Liston actually busted up on the easy side.
Fighting his competition, Liston easily landed it, until he faced Ali and others after him. Facing a guy 7+ inches taller and 30 pounds heavier it s different story. Some fighters get out of the way leaning back or with their feet. Vitali could do either.
I wouldn't compare those two either. However, I thought Vitali would have won that fight vs. Lewis if not for the cuts. He was strongly winning on my card.
Cuts are part of the game. Vitali had multiple cuts and they were caused by punches. Lewis exposed some deficiencs in Vital's defense that night.
Looked to me like Vitlay was on his way out. He was getting hit hard, and often, then started holding on to keep himself upright.
Yeah, Cuts are part of the game Vitail had 215 Amateur fights and 47 pro fights, and only was lost on cut. That's .0038% lost on cuts for Vitali. Ali by the way once lost an amateur match on cuts As I told you before Liston had more cuts and swelling. More relevant to the conversation is Liston lost to Marty Marshall, was busted up badly in 3 rounds by Cleveland Williams, was shaken up by Ali and quit, and was knocked cold by Leotis Martin. Suddenly a cuts stoppage while Vital was in the lead doesn't sound so bad. Several fighters say Liston cheated and had burning eyes. Coincidence?
I wasn't. I was saying until Liston fought Ali he feasted on weaker competition. Smaller guys, suspect chins, and match ups that favored him stylewise. Besides Ali wasn't in his prime when he defeated Liston. He was a very young man entering it.
Yeah but who did Vitali beat? His best win is against an out of shape retired golf player: He did beat some decent fighters, but I am not impressed by his resume either
