I would say prety good in his prime.

Was Vitally really that much of a knockout artist anyway?

Of course he looked better, he was fighting absolute scrubs.

I guess you must be one of those guys who think Vitali wasn't prime for Lewis because he looked much better schooling a fat, shot Sanders and the Canadian whale Kirk Johnson.

Liston was 40 years of age if not more by the time Martin laid him out, his chin was not what it once was. Tex Cobb had a legendary chin and even he was eventually sparked out by some journeyman in a single round.

He was never chin checked? Cleveland Williams was a hell of a puncher. Foreman compared his power to that of ****ey...that's pretty damning to say the least. Mike DeJohn also packed dynamite, and so did cops --- who broke nightsticks off Listons head in attempts to restrain him, with no success.

Vitalis punching power? Let's just say he looks like a damn featherfist in comparison to his brother, or any real puncher of the division. Byrd pretty much laughed at him, and he struggled mightily to put away an ancient Sanders that gassed out after 2 and pretty much took flush hits the remainder of the night.

Most of his knockouts are an accumulation of hundreds of punches. There's a reason he has a super-high workrate ---- and it sure as **** isn't because he has genuine, concussive power.

87% k.o record or was at one time..says yes.vitali had punching power that of foreman with less weight on it,i would rank him number 6 if I had to. those who make the accumilitive punching excuse needs to look no further than Foreman himself and how he k.od guys....total double standard as usual just read the above comment before mine.

The point I was making was liston was not at all prime by 64/65..here is more proof...

During the first Liston-Ali fight at the Convention Hall in Miami Beach on February 25, 1964, Sonny had a bad left shoulder. He had gone to see Joe Louis’s doctor who treated him for bursitis, but there wasn’t enough time for the treatment to work. Sonny was around forty-five years old at the time, which was a well kept secret, and old men like Sonny just healed more slowly. He asked the Florida Boxing Commission for a postponement of the fight. He was turned down and fought the six rounds with the damaged left shoulder, which he completely tore up during the fight. He had no jab and no left hook that night because of it. He didn’t have a chance against the young healthy Cassius Clay. It was a RTD6 for the new champ. Soon after the fight, which was ranked the 1964 Fight of the Year by The Ring Magazine, Clay changed his name to Cassius X and finally to Muhammad Ali.

The underlined contradicts itself and is absurd to boot.

Viltai has never possessed the power of the really big bangers he hit an ancient Briggs all night , beat him like a drum and couldn't even floor him.Comparing his power to his brother's,Lewis',Tyson's Liston's Foreman's etc is ridiculous.

To my way of looking at things, Vitali was a good heavy puncher who wore most people down as his stoppage ratio attests to, but he wasn't really a single punch KO artist at world level. Liston vs VK...if Sonny could have kept the pressure on Vitali enough, he may have been able to come away with the win but he'd have to take a lot of punishment over a lot of rounds, I fear, and might have got discouraged by it. Vitali is favourite for me with his height advantage, good chin and boxing style.
