In terms of reign you have to acknowledge Wlad. he achieved a lot. Had a great career. Terrific longevity. Came back from losses well. Came out of retirement and almost best Joshua.

It’s a case like his where I feel Wlad and maybe even Lewis deserve a division of their own as Modern Super Heavyweights. In their own modern class they are great.

I don’t think it is a cop out to say I rate Wlad higher in the Super Heavyweight division than Liston. But I rate Sonny higher in the heavyweight division.

Wlad in the 1960s heavyweight division probably wouldn’t make it as a fighter.

The majority of long men developed on nothing more than traditional 15 round training methods wound up as weight weakened string beans with thin arms, long necks with a protruding Adams Apple.

In terms of legacy it's Wlad for me. It looks bad with three KO losses to guys that weren't at the top, but he put together a decade of being nigh untouchable. A lack, though, that he didn't face the best possible opponent during these years, Vitaly.

But Liston has so few wins over ranked opposition and I think his conduct in the Ali fights wasn't really becoming of a great. So Wlad for me in terms of resume.

    H2h.... Can't be bothered.

Wlad should be a top 6/7 staple at HW. His résumé combined with such a lengthy title run is very hard to beat. Liston has a nice résumé, but nothing crazy. He's probably a 9-13 guy. My list look like this, with what I think is arguable to change.

    Ali/Louis
    Lewis/Holmes
    Foreman
    Wlad/Holyfield/Frazier
    Marciano/Liston
    Johnson

H2H - Liston wins. He's awful for Wlad, and he'd break him via intimidation before they got in there, and then Wlad gets KTFO'd.

I rarely have more than a handful of places between Wlad and Sonny in the HW rankings. They're of a rougher similar standing imo, in the top 9-12 places, or so, all time.

I'd probably usually put Wladimir a little higher all time. They'd likely go 1-1 in two fights. Sonny's natural toughness and long reach would be a problem, especially for pre-Steward Wlad. Wladimir doesn't want to get in a punch up with him like Cleveland Williams. The smarter more experienced Klitschko who learned to clinch better and pace himself probably beats Sonny.

Don`t think Klitschko`s chin would stand up to Listons Bombs

Meant to say similar sized. Liston was 212-220 in his prime. Brewster was 224. Despite your fanboyism, their's not that much in it all. This also isn't a Marshall or Martin type loss. Wlad wasn't at the beginning or end of his career. He'd had 46 fights, was the number one contender, and went on to have a decade long reign.

Don't accuse me of being a fanboy, I try to be objective. Liston's best weight was 212. While experienced, Wlad had only just started working with Steward. He seemed to have a panic attack against Brewster and didn't seem himself. Wlad thought he was drugged in that fight, which might have been excuse. He refined his style after this and avenged his defeat

The Peter fight seemed to be a turning point. He was on the verge of being KO'd (twice, no?), but pulled through and beat both Peter and Brewster in rematches without any problems.

Pretty much, although he was down 3 times so not quite the finished article. That was the first time he'd come back from major adversity.

IIRC I think Vitali didn't want him to take the Peter fight because he didn't think he'd win it.

Liston was overweight at 218 was ponderous. To be fair Liston weighed weighed 209-212. His peak was against Williams in the rematch and he weighed 212

I'm not sure what you're talking about or whether that's an actual valid sentence. It doesn't seem to make any sense
