honestly can you see wlad going 12 rounds without getting hit by sonny?
i like wlad, but i don't think he is capable beating sonny, mentally and physically.liston is a complete fighter, great outside and inside game, punches to the body and head, also has a great jab, maybe a better one than wlad.
once liston starts landing,is wlad going to panic?also i could see liston knocking down wlad with a hard jab...

Best post in this thread by far, and one which pretty accurately sums up the situation as regards foreign/American heavyweights.

What do you mean "he even was against Haye"? Are you saying Haye wasn't fast, that Haye couldn't punch or wasn't a threat? If so, you're one of the first Brits I've seen who've thought that.

Honestly, can you see Liston standing up to 12 rounds of jabs and right hands from Wlad? Honestly?

I think Wlad's "china chin" is overplayed. Two of his three KO defeats were exhaustion induced, a problem he has worked out with Manny's help. Hell, he hasn't gone into panic mode in what, 8 years while fighting top contenders? That's pretty good evidence he has solved that issue.

As far as jabs, Wlad has the quicker, and possibly more powerful jab. I think Wlad wins on the outside. Sonny's best approach would be to wear him down and exhaust him by getting inside and pressuring, but all that will come at a steep cost.

Wlad's "china chin" is definitely overplayed. He has an average chin, no better, no worse than many heavyweight champions. He's never actually been knocked unconscious, and has taken more than his fair share of big punches from big punchers to dispell his weak chin myth, were more boxing fans actually able to absorb and assimilate the evidence of fights into their views.

Liston's jab was powerful and he got great range on it with his long arms and his lunging style, but it was also slow and left him overexposed and often unable to follow up with a quick hard right due to the overextension. It was actually quite similar to Mercer's jab, which caused Wlad a few problems before he demolished Mercer. I can see Liston's jab bothering Wlad and possible marking up/cutting his face, but I also see Wlad totally outboxing Liston and KOing him around the sixth.

    i don't think he has a china chin.but i don't consider his chin good.
he hasn't gone into panic mode since sam peter fight, which is the last fight he got hit.
ok,that's not the best version of wlad probably, but keep in mind sonny is consider by many the most intimidating hw,i think that would play a major role in this one...
i remember mercer stunning wlad with the power of his jab,and sonny's jab was a textbook example of a telephone jab..
i see wlad having problems with sonny's jab,and more important, combination punching, especially in close quarters

ok,i mean't hit and pressured...he did get hit a few times since that ocassionally, but that was the last time someone really put a pressure on him,ate his punches, and land own punches...which is liston capable of :deal

Liston really doesn't fight anything like Sam Peter. He doesn't lunge forward with crude unorthodox caveman punches taking shots on the chin to land his own. And I'd actually consider Liston slower than Peter. People need to look at the Mercer fight to see how the fight goes down. He's the closest fighter stylistically that Wlad has fought in his career. Liston has never fought anyone like Wlad.

I didn't see the USSR stopping Rademacher, Frazier or Foreman from winning Gold.

    :lol::lol::lol:

Go back to the general forum.

I just wish people applied more logic when they post.

As for the TS, I'd favor Liston over Wlad. But I wouldn't bet the house.
