Do any of you fans know of any heavyweight prospects that have a style similar to Listons - the heavy jab, powerful left hook, the scowl, etc. I would like to see a heavyweight prospect come along that could slam thru the heavyweights in much the same way that Liston did in 1958-1962. I heard that Alonzo Butler has a heavy jab and good power - has anyone seen a number of his fights??? Also, heard that Charles Ellis is a good puncher. Grebfan9 www.firstroundboxing.com
I cant say I could compare Liston to any other Heavywieght right now, but if your looking for a good prospect on the come up, look no further than Povetkin. Povetkin has the tools to be a serious player in the heavywieght division, his fight with Bryd will be his first big test.
I don't think any today are better. Some are BIGGER, and perhaps close to his ability. Watching a peak Liston (pre-title) is awesome, a very skillful, powerful fighter. Used intimidation as well as Tyson, had a jab that could KO some fighters , a left hook to die for and a great right hand. He also had an iron jaw, and underrated speed. He could string together some mighty combinations, and reminds me of Joe Louis the way he fights sometimes.
