Liston is one of the biggest mysteries in boxing, his age and background are not clear, his trouble with the law, connections with the mob, the controversial clay fights and his strange death make him a very interesting charachter in my opinion. Dude was a beast though, with huge fists and very long arms for his height, serious power. Him destroying patterson was brutal, I never though highly of patterson but recently after watching fights of the guy he was pretty damn good. A funny thing about liston ( dont know if its mentioned in this docu) was that he actually flipped a cop upside down in a trash can like a cartoon
Just outclass by clay. Beat him inside and outside the ring. And cried like a baby about his arm. What almost think he had french in his blood . Lol. Pointless thread. Delete
Don't forget that Ali had the mob on his side, and Liston was probably paid / forced to take a dive. Ali was still probably the superior figter, but we'll never really know.
I think there were on going investigation into the mob and boxing at the time. So Liston and his mob backers may have just wanted out in a hurry...
Yes, Liston was controlled by the mob. - And they wanted Clay to win because his handlers were connected to THEM. That was my point. Ali was "protected" in many ways, in many of his fights.
