According to Paul Gallender, who wrote a book about Liston, claims that he was born in 1917 and also fought under the name of Sailor Liston. The ONLY thing is that he was a WHITE MAN!

In the post-Ali II portion of his career, Sonny fought in some venues where they might have actually allowed horses in the locker room.

 

I think you are both right. I always suspected that Sonny was actually about five years younger than most people think. This proves it. I believe that the Sonny Liston who later won the heavyweight title is actually the reincarnation of Sailor Liston. After the Sailor died in 1935, he was re-born into a black family just a few days later. So Mr. Gallender is correct about Liston's original date of birth, and you are correct that the Sonny who later won the heavyweight title was a black man. It's simple logic.

 

Gallender said that Liston was born in 1919, not 1917
