Actually that is secondary! And first thanks for sharing some of your general & boxing related history! By the way the icons here are unusually varied & some straaange... And that is largely what I was doing with Liston's age-I mostly just love to play with the absurd & surreal, so ran with a sliiiiight exaggeration of the most extreme interpretations of his age. Although we just had an unauthorized biography which suggests 1933 or 1934 as his birthdate-just slightly younger than the (compared to a few years from 1920....) seemingly most sober & likely early 1930's... Going further than some who had Sonny a *mere* few 100 years old or so!
They made it in the late 2000s, called Phantom Punch. You’re not missing much. It wasn’t good, and it took a lot of liberties with the story. For instance, Sonny’s friend is ordered by the mafia to tell Liston to take a dive against Patterson. He doesn’t tell Liston, and Liston wins. Before the mafia can murder them, the friend tells them “I took your money and bet it on Liston and won you a bunch of money” so they don’t kill them.
Serves him right if almost nobody saw it. (In the Thai language "sum num na" means "serves you right".) Any movie about Liston is doomed because there ain't nobody who is suitable for the lead. Not even Liston could have played himself. He was the world's worst actor.
He was also in one of two movies released almost simultaneously called "Harlow". And he did a commercial with Andy "Slugger" Warhol. He was terrible in all of them. He didn't show any acting talent in Lewiston, either.
Nobody. Because Grant is buried above ground; in what is called a mausoleum. That is uptown from me, @ Riverside Drive & 122nd Street.
Of course. But did you know this technically correct answer to it? All those who are disparaging about those, if only jestingly, the idiocy of others who do not know the obvious answer... Are ironically completely wrong in their smug presumption, because they do not understand the part that is a trick question that THEY fall prey to!
You'll love it here. Springs pumped out over 10k posts here as well - https://www.boxingforum24.com/search/80453026/
Thanks JT. I've been waking up in the middle of the night to check the new posts. Need to quell that habit.
I’d prob give Liston a YOB of 1928 on the outside, no earlier. Still, that would put Liston at 36 yo when he first faced Ali - certainly no spring chicken. YOB notwithstanding, you could argue that Liston appeared to age more than just the 6.3 years between his Jun50 mugshot and the one taken in Oct56 - so he could’ve evolved into looking somewhat older than he was due to various lifestyle factors and simply due to genetics. It’s tough to gauge age when someone is younger - I’d guess Liston to possibly be 18-22 in the 1950 mugshot but who knows for sure?
