Heroin overdose, apparently. Mystery shrouds his death, since he was supposed to be very fearful of needles, and track marks were supposed to have been found on his arm. Rumor is the mob took him out. He was found dead in his Vegas home by his wife, who had been gone. He'd been dead about a week.

He was also rumored to have been quite a bit older than 38.

The mob doesn't really exist any more, but there still fixed fights. Usually at lower level club shows; why would they fix a big show in the spotlight? Doesnt make sense

 

You don't hear news about killings and interference from the MOB. Why do you think its obvious? You mostly hear about crooked promoters.

+ Major Money + temptation = Bribary.......

Bribary + Gambling + Major money = Certain Victory for all involved..

= Mega money....

It still happens, and as long as there is one born every minute, there will always be enough money to tempt the sucker to dive...

Johnny Tocco told me that when Ali and Liston were set to meet in Maine, he got an anonymous call a week before the fight.. He told me the caller spoke of Charles knowing what he had to do , and if he was to look after his best interests , Tocco would not leave town and allow Sonny to go alone to Lewiston .. Johnny's servives were not required..

Johnny never went ... The rest is history....

That is something i will never forget.. Johnny never spoke of that event much . Sonnys & Geraldines home on the Las Vegas country club golf course (desert Inn) was bought for him by Ash Resnick.. a man he regarded as a close friend, but Ash was also an associate of Frank Carbo, and Blinkie Palermo.. The gift was in my opinion something Sonny felt obligedly beholding for towards the 3 gangsters.. Anything Ash wanted , Sonny was willing to do.. (The Mob befriended Liston) and had Sonny right in thier pocket... Charles was trapped... he made a mess of the second Ali fight and it looked too unconvincing and it almost certainly spelt Sonnys demise...

If he done 7miles in 4 hours it would be around 1.75miles per hour.
But 7 miles in 4 hours is pretty crap right? even with 7pound shoes on.
