    (11-days before the Liston vs. Clay I Tilye Fight)

    'The Ed Sullivan Show'
    Live from the Deauville Hotel, Miami Beach, Florida

    The Beatles
    Sonny Liston

    The Beatles opened with their first set,
    'All My Loving'
    'This Boy'
    'She Loves You'

    Sonny Liston skips rope to 'Night Train'.
    Joe Louis appearance

    The Beatles second set;
    'I Saw Her Standing There'
    'From Me to You'
    'I Want to Hold Your Hand'

    This show was seen by an estimated 70,000,000 people.

    Sonny Liston's rope-skipping performance was 'mind-bending', as he looked like an invincible machine.
    An amazing show of physical beauty.
    How this man lost, just 9-days later, and the way he did, utter disbelief.

    Did his performance on Television, help influence people in the belief that he was invincible,,,,,,,,yes!!!

    Oh lord...you just made me laugh out loud in front of a computer! That never happens.

    My favorite:

    Esther- "Don't say that about her. Beauty is on the inside"

    Fred- "Then you better turn the ***** inside-out"

    I heard that Sonny was watching in the wings and quipped "This is the band everyone is so nuts about? Psh...my dog can play drums better than the one with the big nose..."

    That is pretty awesome

    Is there any footage of this jump rope session?

    Anybody who has seen proper footage of Liston knows he was a great BOXER. Contrary to the popular belief that he was an intimidation force who could just hit hard. He had a great stance and evasive tactics.

    But talking about Ali

    Its hard to call him a square when he basically invented rap music.
    In 1965, Ali put out a record. Some consider it to be the firs rap album ever.

    Today, rap/hip-hop is the most popular genre in America. American music is everywhere.

    Ali = not square

    Liston = not square

    The gorilla cookies!!! :rofl We kids loved this wisecrack from the "old Heathen"!

    I also am enjoying this thread, 'cause Liston --no angel for sure-- was probably ostracized many a time simply due to his "menacing aura".

    Glad he's being remembered as a cool dude to pal with. To me, any guy who exhibits the sense of aspiration and discipline he did in becoming champion is pretty worthwhile.

    Shoot, Sonny Liston skipping to "Night Train", doing roadwork in a hoodie or advancing behind the jab in the ring are all quintessential boxing images! :good
