It has a lot to do with the 2 fighters. We're talking about an average heavyweight champion with one knockout over a top 25 fighter versus a decent champion with a 92 percent KO percentage.
Fact is, no one is absolutely sure how Vitali is going to look after all this time. Not even Vitali. That's what makes this fight so interesting. If this fight takes place with a prime Vitali, no one cares...easy blowout win for Vitali. I don't think that Vitali Klitschko would comeback and challenge the current WBC title holder if he felt he couldn't perform at an appropriate level. The Klitschko's have too much pride for mediocrity. Vitali KO in 4
In comparable history, if Sam Peter was as good as A) Jack Johnson in his prime B) Ezzard Charles in his prime (maybe little after it) C) Larry Holmes in his prime D) Mike Tyson in his prime, this may be a good comparison in general. However, imo all of the above were in good shape when those you mentioned came back from retirement, and alot better than Sam Peter. So I think Vitali has a much better chance than the others you mentioned.
The thing about Jack Johnson, Ezzard Chales, Larry Homles, and Mike Tyson is they're all all time greats. Sam Peter is a pugy "slugger" without any meaningful KO's against top tier opponents. Consider him the Kimbo Slice of pro boxing.
:rofl :rofl I just ****i'n hope you're right. That long layoff is really bothering me. I'm picking Vit but I'm not that confident and comfortable. :yep
So you think that "Fat Boy, Cant Box A Lick" Sam Peter will win. Or should I say "The Human Heavybag, Einstein" Sam Peter. It doesnt really matter. Sam Peter is na embarrassing example of what the heavyweight champion of the world should be. There are atleast a dozen other heavyweight contenders who would whip his ass with little difficulty. James McCline beat him and got burned by the decision. Plus he is a bully and has a big mouth. Guys that have to talk about how tough they are usually are not that tough. They are just trying to convince themselves that they are. Fianlly this Saturday we will witness what a "Tomato Can" Sam Peter really is.
No my friend, I said Floyd never fought a top ten ranked welterweight and he NEVER did (wonder why though?).
I hope so I am on record (see previous posts) as a huge Vitali fan! In his prime this would not even be a question to debate. I just wish he would have taken a shake-the-rust-off fight first.
This is absolutely true - and it is exactly what I have been saying since I heard the announcement of this fight. I have no argument with those who think Vitali can win this fight - it is those who think he should be the favorite, or that it is a foregone conclusion, who are way off the mark. ALL the variables affecting the outcome of the fight work in Peter's favor, with the possible exception of skill - assuming Vitali has retained the level of ability he had FOUR years ago, which is highly doubtful. In sum, I will be shocked if Vitali wins this fight. As you point out, all of boxing history would suggest it is unlikely - very unlikely.
