What good is your power if you don't have the speed, accuracy, and tactics to actually land the punch?

You will be that guy who everyone says "He hits hard!", but they ALWAYS kick your can.

Youre wrong. He did not sum it up PEFECTLY because he said if Im asking that question it means I havent fought yet.Thats wrong because i have had fights at novice and open, and sparred dozens of rounds.Thats the part where he was wrong.Im not stubborn because not only do I know the importance of balance, form, cordination, and technique,I also understand that those things are more important than power. But that does not mean that I dont desire to hit as hard as possible. The word troll is way overused on this forum,by the way.

  5. Feel free to post some videos of the fights, you could be right. Technique is key to being a better boxer though.

Yeah,I know.None of my bouts were ever taped, and what sparring that was recorded was in possesion of my first trainer who I lost contact with.I plan on fighting in either the GA Golden Gloves or Indiana Golden Gloves next March.Depending on where Ill be living then.If I can get it on video,I will defenitly post it.

**** power. Power is a joke for amatuers.

You might be able to throw hydrogen bombs for a round or two, but for every "power" fighter theres 300 guys who can take those shots and frankly just don't give a ****.

A well placed power shot only counts for one point- the same as a pitty pat jab would. Amatuer fights don't last long enough for power to be much of a factor, especially when the refs are super liberal with the standing 8 count.

Your best bet is to work on endurance. Throw 50 thousand jabs. That will win you fights.

I can't tell you how many times I completely brutalized a guy only to lose by "points" because my power didn't count for ****. It didn't matter that at any second that guy was going to go down, or that he was running for his life the whole time. All the judges noticed was shots landed...

Yes,amatuer scoring does suck at times and the standing 8 count baffles me...Ive seen guys really not even get buzzed that much and be given a standing 8.Hell I got one in my first bout just for spitting my mouthpiece out.

Well, and if you're a power puncher it's frustrating because the ref gives the clown a standing 8 right when you're trying to put him down.

So of course he recovers then you've got to start all over again....

If you're an inside fighting body puncher like I was it makes life pretty difficult

This is the internet there are a lot of trolls.

But to the point, If you already understand balance, technique etc. but you know you are going to/want to use more power then what are you asking here? This seems to be just a 'Look at me, everyone says I punch like Mike Tyson' threads.

If you're sparring you should just be focusing on technique, everything should be combined in being efficient. You say you're relatively old, but when you are sparring it is a learning session, and its essential that you try new things. Some motions, combos/maneuvers etc dont come out at full force when you're caught up in action and rehearsing something new in particular. You may not be comfortable using a new combo or tight tactic to close distance, and its those tiny defensive movements that has more to do with precision and practice where power has no substitute. Maybe your age or 'lack of experience' as you put it has caused you to over look other options, Skillwise. Overall power is good so why would your coach insist you focus on that when its an asset you already have. Just trying to make sense of it, since I dont think anyone would argue that power is useless.
