    Damn, Miguel. You had him.

To paraphrase the Dennis Green quote a few years ago, "The Bears were who we thought they were. And that's why we took the damn field! Now, if you wanna crown them, then crown their ass! But they are who we thought they were! And we let 'em off the hook!"

    Round 1: Mayweather
    Round 2: Cotto
    Round 3: Mayweather
    Round 4: Mayweather
    Round 5: Even
    Round 6: Even
    Round 7: Mayweather
    Round 8: Cotto
    Round 9: Cotto
    Round 10: Cotto
    Round 11: Mayweather
    Round 12: Mayweather

At the end of Round 10, I had it an even fight at 94-94. I muted the volume from around the 3rd or 4th round to around the middle of the 6th round because HBO's commentating was just way too biased in favor of Mayweather.

Punch stat numbers were showing Floyd landing just too many punches that I thought were clearly being blocked or slipped by Miguel. Miguel wasn't getting any credit for what I thought was clear and effective body work for the better part of the fight.

The rounds I scored for Mayweather were based on a feeling I had at the end of them that if I had to choose a winner, then it was Floyd. Not because he won them outright or clearly, but because I felt that he outworked Miguel slightly. On the contrary, the rounds I scored for Cotto were rounds I felt Miguel clearly won.

I scored two rounds even. I just felt neither fighter gave an inch to each other in rounds 5 and 6.

Rounds 11 and 12, I scored for Mayweather. Round 11, Miguel took his foot off the gas and didn't do much. But neither did Mayweather. I had to give it to Mayweather, though, because he outworked Miguel. But nothing of significance landed I thought for Mayweather. Round 12 was the only round that I thought Mayweather clearly won. He briefly staggered Cotto in the closing minutes but Mayweather clearly did not have the energy to finish him off.

    Final score: 114-112 Mayweather

Closing thoughts: Early on and throughout, the commentating was again typical. There's clearly an agenda from HBO and you're either blind or a biased fan if you can't see through it. The punch stat numbers are a joke and are used to bolster and provide cover for the agenda.

In my opinion, you could see early on that Miguel was gonna have to knock out Mayweather to derail what was being set up by the biased commentary and skewered punch stats for the telecast viewers to justify the two 117-111 scores and truly unbelievable 118-110 score.

None of this is surprising, though. Miguel was never going to get the benefit of the doubt. As far as HBO and the Las Vegas business community was concerned, a Cotto points victory stood in the way of the richest and biggest fight. A Cotto points victory effectively ends that possibility. A Cotto points victory does not stir a new appetite, except to his biggest supporters, for a rematch with Pacquiao.

In the end, Cotto wasn't going to get a decision no matter how well he did. It ain't right but, thank god, this is boxing. Every honest fighter has one chance to upset the apple cart: the KO.

And this is what pisses me off about Cotto's fight last night. He and Diaz know all of this. The game plan started off shaky but Cotto by the mid rounds was starting to press and I thought it worked here and there, but not consistently. Cotto's best work was done whenever he attacked Mayweather's body behind the jab, bullying him to the ropes. This works on Mayweather, for f-ks sake! It worked beautifully one night 10 years ago! It worked last night for however long it lasted!

So in the end, I think, what did him in was fighting this fight with the mentality that he would be given the benefit of the doubt in Las Vegas, mixing in too much boxing and not going out there to KO Mayweather.

Sorry Miguel, but you blew it.

    Excellent post my friend!
I also thought the fight was closer than what the judge's scorecards showed (118-110 WTF - I mean, c'mon)
I am glad that someone else mentioned that Cotto did a good job at blocking at of PBF's punches that some people thought actually hit Cotto's face but they were hitting his gloves. I was a little drunk but I think one of the HBO's guy actually said too once during the fight.

Anyways at the end the best man won, however, the score cards were too far appart which is why I think Miguel took offense to that and left without been interviewed. Maybe he thought he was not given any credit at all for the good performance he put on last night. ****, I for thought he was going to lose badly but he really impress the **** out of me, and I am been truly honest here.

IMHO, had Cotto put PBF down once during the fight, maybe that would had changed the outcome of the fight.....

Doesnt matter anymore. The blueprint has been laid out.Had it been martinez in there instead of cotto, may would of got knocked the **** back down to reality. For this reason i will not push for a martinez vs mayweather fight.I seriously believe Martinez will hurt this cat badly
