So unfair to Walters, I was rooting for Sosa, but the fight wasn't close. I wished Sosa would have declined the draw and announced Walters the winner. He knew he didn't win that fight.
It was a fair decision, every round was close. Sosa couldn't miss with that overhand right. People claiming it was a shut out are out of their minds or they weren't paying attention (like the HBO commentators).
Sosa believes he won- "I thought I won the fight," Sosa said. "I was more active, I was more aggressive, I got better shots in, so I'm disappointed it was a draw."
I thought Walters won more clear rounds than Sosa did. I thought there were a ton of close rounds also. The HBO commentators ignored most of Sosa's good work, or tried to trivialize it, by saying things like Walters seems like the harder puncher. Which is a totally dumb statement to make. We don't know who hits harder between the two, as we aren't the ones taking comparative shots from both. Both guys have a lot of KO's as well. Sosa was definitely hitting hard enough to back Walters off of him at times, and make Walters very defensive. I thought Walters took it by a couple rounds, but don't have a problem with the draw.
Yeah, there were about 5-7 rds that were close enough to give to Sosa, but Walters won 5 very clean rds, where they were tight, but Sosa was rocked, and or his punches didnt seem to have any steam on them. I had it 116-112 Walters. :think
Sosa definitely didn't seem to be getting credit for that right hand up stairs he repeatedly landed over Walters' left shoulder.
Ironically, this should've been a wide decision for Walters instead of a draw, while the last match of Walters' victim Nonito Donaire, versus César Juárez, ought to have been a draw (even with the knockdowns) and yet was scored wide for Donaire. :conf Goes to show what the benefit of the doubt coming with star power can do for you. Donaire is a longtime established star. Walters isn't, and thus doesn't get the same treatment.
