Indeed. That is why Zorrita will forever be living under the shadow of his other great Mexican contemporaries like MAB, EM, and JMM. These 3 would gladly face anyone put in front of them. Soto for all his talent, will never be an HBO main eventer.
lets hold off on saying Soto is ducking Peterson. The man is an animal and doesnt seem like the type to duck fighters. Im sure Arum has something better planned for him.
Thats ****ed up. Soto wouldve knocked Peterson head off and its on HBO. Nacho must be Sotos new manager
This is a puzzling decision by Soto, much like Godfrey's decision not to fight Cunningham for the title tonight on ESPN.
 I literally don't know what to do with myself now. Long overdue dinner with mom it is. At least Soto-Peterson falling out doesn't render that date completely devoid of televised boxing! :|
I'm sick about the ESPN card not happening tonight. How many times do we get two legit title fights on basic cable like that. Cunningham/Godfrey would have been an excellent matchup, and I was looking forward to Bundrage/Spinks because K-9 is a fellow Detroiter. Who knows when or if those fights get done? In fact, I read on ESPN.com that Godfrey's refusal to go through with the fight casued him to lose his ranking and Troy Ross will be taking on Cunningham for the title now.
That's a silver lining at least. I was looking forward to Spinks-Bundrage too (albeit with rooting interests diametrically opposed to yours :yep). Was that officially "on" the card as of the cancellation of Cunningham-Godfrey? There were a bunch of ongoing issues with Cory, IIRC...
Intentional, I THOUGHT you were not a K-9 fan! I almost mentioned it in my last post. Yeah, Cunningham/Godfrey was going to be the main event and Cory/K-9 was the main supporting undercard bout. Great card. The Spinks fight had gotten delayed once before, though. I heard Cory was having weight issues. I spoke to K-9 (who is actually a really cool guy) not long ago and he was very confident about the fight.
Well, I've gotten over my K-9 thing, since his Contender overexposure ended long ago. It's more that I'm a big supporter of Spinks, especially since he's started adopting more of a fan-friendly style in the twilight of his career (like Ruiz - and like Ruiz, having a hell of a time getting any credit for it) - and especially since the horrible robbery loss to Phillips. Losing to Bundrage (especially getting knocked out...a very real possibility, since his legs are largely gone) would be pretty much the last straw, not to mention a good name for Cornelius. A win could set him back on the right path to one last title bid (a legit title, not a vacant one). Also, to re-rail the thread a bit - this fight is still listed as being on. Rafael is sometimes right with his early scoops, but he isn't always right. Let's wait for corroboration before taking the man's word as gospel.
Yeah, but how many times do things get said that don't stick. Maybe at the time he was quoted by Rafael, Arum meant what he said in saying it was off...but that's not how negotiations work in this sport and we all know it. Things change, back and forth, constantly...and any information that isn't literally up-to-the-minute isn't really current or reliable. Just look at how many times Cunningham-Godfrey was "back on". Dan may have blown his load prematurely. It's happened before.
You know I'm not a big supporter of Spinks, but I do like him okay and never hated on him the way some do. And I give him and Ruiz credit for changing up the styles a bit. I hope Soto/Peterson happens. That Foreman/Cotto fight is not that compelling and needs some good fights to support it.
