Sounds like GGG may be done with the Canelo judges (no rematch?)

I'm sure he was aware of how the Ward-Kovalev fights in Vegas were scored, in addition to how his own bout with Canelo was scored. Here's what he had to say to ESPN after the fight about a potential rematch with Canelo. Starts at about 1:10 into the video.

: "When you look at what happened tonight, do you want to fight him again? Do you want a definitive fight where you can win and the judges recognize what you did in the ring?"

: "You know, right now, maybe this question is for promotion (promoter)...if second fight is the same, just you win 6-10 rounds...you win 8-10 rounds and people say 'draw,' or 'you lost,' (that's) very bad for boxing"

: Why would I fight against Canelo again just so I can win 8 rounds and have the judges score it as Canelo winning 10 rounds?

---> I agree with GGG here and, were I advising him, I would likely recommend avoiding a rematch with Canelo because of the judging that seems to surround Canelo's fights.

There seems little upside to Golovkin rematching Canelo now (save another big paycheck). Based upon initial returns of Media/Fighters/Trainers, 80% or so of knowledgeable observers felt GGG won the fight. GGG kept his belts, he outlanded Canelo and he clearly was not happy with how the judges treated him.

In neither fight with Ward did Kovalev seem to be getting his just due on the cards. At some point, as a fighter, you may have to ask yourself if you want to willingly walk into an ambush. We know Ward, himself, almost always avoided such a perceived risk.

GGG waited a long time to get Canelo in the ring. The fight took place, everyone saw how each fighter executed in the ring, Golovkin got his experience with the Canelo judges, and GGG walked away with belts intact.

I think there is a significant chance that Golovkin makes the choice that Kovalev may have wish he made when debating whether or not to take a second bout with Ward.

The difference, of course, is that Kovalev lost his belts to Ward. Golovkin still has his belts.

    Nice colours.

GGG will want a rematch no doubt about it but not in Vegas and with alot more control over other contractual matters which will involve drug testing for Canelo. Im sure Oscar would love the rematch, money money money, but it will have to be in Vegas and no to the drug testing or is isnt going to happen.

So i think there is a good chance this doesnt happen due to clashes within the contract.

The scorecards were built around making sure there was a rematch to maximize the short term earnings at the expense of the long term credibility of this sport. We all see it and we know how this works. I paid for this fight happily because I like to support the fighters who take on the best challenges. But after nearly 40 years watching boxing, I'm getting really weary of this bull****. I may skip even watching the rematch unless it's outside Nevada.

Someone asked GGG in the post fight press conference if he would like the rematch in Madison Square Garden (more of a GGG "home turf" fight). I can't recall what Loeffler replied to that question.

I guess that could be an option.

A GGG-Canelo fight had to happen. It did. It was really a matter of when it would happen.

Well, it happened. And a lot of people aren't thrilled with what took place. Whether that's because of the judging or because of how each fighter chose to fight.

We'll see if a rematch takes place or not.

If I heard it right, I'm not even sure that De La Hoya/Golden Boy said straight up that they would (for sure) exercise their rematch clause. Someone asked a question about it and there was some confusion on the point.

Canelo fighting like he did tonight isn't what his fans want to see. At least not based upon the crowd reaction after the fight.

It could be the case that neither side ends up wanting a rematch. Time will tell.

I was also extremely disappointed in this fight. Even though I respect Canelo's strategy and understand why he did it.

We didn't get what we thought we were going to get. I don't think anyone thought Canelo would fight as he fought.

The judging was unfortunate, but probably not unexpected for those who have paid attention to Canelo's career.

    Adelaide Byrd is a disgrace

And I've got to make teddy atlas right

Fighters being robbed by cowards at ringside who have never took a punch in their born days of life is disgusting

He defended his belts he still has them. Up to him if he wants to make a huge payday or continue fights where he makes less the integrity of the sport is intact.

if I was GGG, I would forego a rematch with Canelo and fight other fighters.

another fight with Canelo would just lead to a full blown robbery. GGG got lucky last night and dodged a bullet imo.

    he should 've won.

In a rematch GGG won't be so lucky. This time it will be a full blown robbery. He did enough to win last night and was awarded with a draw. Only way to beat Canelo is by KO which he ain't doing. Canelo has a good chin. I would just go after Saunders or defend the WBC vs Charlo. GBP and Canelo can go on with their lives screwing other fighters of wins and taking any advantage they can get to their favor too.

Not sure of a rematch. It will be the bigger money fight but that is exactly what the powers that be want.
