I fight mainly as a southpaw mainly because it's easier to deal with orthodox fighters. If I fight orthodox it's I feel more comfortable moving inside and pressuring in the stance and I feel I'm more powerful in the stance, whereas my southpaw stance is to stay on the outside and use my speed and greater movement. It's like I'm 2 completely different fighters in either stance. If I'm fighting a southpaw I'll fight orthodox all the time though. I've genuinely got no idea how to approach fighting a southpaw in the southpaw stance myself. As an orthodox fighter it may be more difficult but at least I know what I need to do, ie circle to the left, lead with the right, right head double up left hook then right head again combinations etc.
I am natural southpaw and I fight in this position as well. It makes it more difficult for a lot of opponents, including some other southpaws as well. I never tried to switch. While my jab (this time left) and left hook are getting quicker and harder in orthodox position, compared to the right ones in southpaw position, my right hand gets pretty useless. I know there were some decent one-handed fighters (Cooney), but I do not feel comfortable that way.
